SG Standard thru Peavey XXX amp, P/U Suggestions

I have a SG standard which i recently put in some Dave Mustaines and found it to be way too, i guess mid rangy. I guess what i was looking for was to kind of hot rod this one Cherry SG Standard that i want to use mainly for more modern metal playing. The Mustaines i found aren't the answer here especially with the amp i own. The other current SG's i own are mainly used for the Sabbath Tribute band i play in.

A SG Classic tuned to Eb with custom JB 90 Soap bar pup which works great i think due to the heavyness of the classic (wood)unlike the Stanard SGs, see where i'm getting at here. A Black SG standard currently with Jazz/JB tuned to C#, but i think the JB has too much mids for the Standard and will be going with the 59B. And finally my ultimate question to you guys to lead me in the right direction is which bridge pup or pups for the combination of an my SG cherry standard in Eb with my Triple xxx head.

As i am writing this i'm thinking i should probably go with another 59b and just turn the gain up on my head OR get something just a little hotter.

would it make sense to put BO in a SG standard with a high gain amp?

well i know for sure i want to use a jazz in the neck.

Its tough to beat the Jazz in the neck for any purpose, but for the bridge the Triple X works really well with low-mid heavy pups (like a Tone Zone/PATB series or similar). It tends to balance out the upper mid hottness of the amp.

You'll be better off with a '59n. Please note the p'up's placement in the SG's body... you'll need more bottom end than a Jazzn, which the '59n delivers plenty of. And while you're at it, get a C5 for the bridge. You can't beat this combo in a SG.

Second best will be a PG set... you'll get instant AC/DC tone and attitude, but if you want more like an all-rounder set, the first combo will do great.

is your XXX stock? the anderson H3 pickup was incredible when i had the stock 6L6s in my XXX. when they died, i replaced em with EL34s for variety's sake, and the H3 doesnt sound so great anymore. but it dominated with 6L6s in the amp.

Nah, It's retubed with JJ's 6L6's which i really love and this would be second time i've changed them with the JJ's.

BTW; i just bought the GL Screamin demon, we'll see how these work. The JB's i had are just too midrangy for the SG Standards.

just put in the GL screamon demon and it sounds way better! You can hear the tone of the wood, it sounds like it complements the standard. Over all it sounds more like focused pup that's still can be very percussive as well.
On to the other cherry standard:D

ah, thatd be fine then. i dont think the manufacturer of the tubes makes a difference in compatibility with the H3

Okay i content with the GL Screaming demon in my blk std with C# tuning, but after putting one in my Cherry standard with Eb tuning it still seems a little midrangy but has good growl. you guys have any good suggestions? I'm also using 300k pots which i believe makes it a little darker.

I know somebody said the C5, what another good option. Again i'm trying keep a good modern tone.:thanks:
