SH-1 '59 + TB-4 sounds ?

Hi there,

1. I bought SH-1 '59 pickup recently.
However, there is no white printing on front of the pickup, "Seymour Duncan".
On the bottom steel surface, there are engravings of "Seymour Duncan", "Made in USA" and so on.
Is my pickup original Seymour Duncan's ?

2. There are only shielding wire(steel mesh) and center lines in my pickup wires.
This seems that coil splitting is not possible to this pickup because only two wires are available.
Is my pickup SH-1 '59 of Seymour Duncan ?

3. My guitar has 5-way pickup selector.
If SH-1 '59 do not provide single splitting, Front pickup (SH-1 '59) and middle pickup (single) can be combined in 2nd or 3rd selector.
When SH-1 '59 and single pickup are combined, I think hum will not be eliminated just like only single pickup is used.
While SH-1 '59 eliminates hum.
I think there also be SH-1 '59 and TB-4 (bridge pickup) combination in 3rd or 4th selector.
This combination might be combination of 4 single pickups (SH-1 '59 + TB-4 = 2 single pickups + 2 single pickups = 4 single pickups)
Will this combination make sounds? I'm concerning any possible noise or big (or small) output.

4. I'd like to use TB-4 with series, not parallel.
Please let me advised which color of line should be Hot, Coil and Ground.
For reference, please let me inform which color of line should be Hot, Coil and Ground for parallel.

Wow, that's a lot of stuff there. Kinda confusing. I will try to answer your questions one at a time

1. Yes, your SH-1 '59 is an original seymour duncan. it is considered part of the PAF family and all pickups in that family do not get "Seymour Duncan" screen on the top of the pickup.

2. Yes, you are correct. Coil Splitting is not possible with a single conductor cable. and yes, once again, your '59 is a seymour duncan.

3. I don't quite understand the question you are asking on this one. Please give us more information. What kind of guitar you have ... what brand, what model ... all of these questions will help us understand this question better. I will answer part one of your question though.

Yes, the '59 alone will be humbucking. The single coil will not be humbucking. The '59 cannot be split (when combined with the single coil) and, therefore, cannot be humbucking when both are on together. Since it is a single conductor pickup, your only options are to get a noiseless single coil for the middle position, if you want hum cancelling throughout. I would suggest the Classic Stack Plus (STK-S4) because I actually have this pickup and it sounds very much like a true single coil. Your other options are the duckbucker, vintage rails, cool rails, hot rails, and other single coil sized humbuckers.

4. Using the standard wiring scheme, it is going to be wired in series. All humbuckers are wired this way (even your '59). standard is Black - Hot (to the switch), Green and Bare (shielding) to ground, White and Red soldered together and taped off. This will not be hum cancelling if/when combined with a standard single coil (your middle pickup)

Hello,

1st and 5th positions are just the humbuckers alone.
These will sound fine. Actually the JB (TB-4) is
probably my favorite pickup.

3rd position will sound close to a Les Paul in the
middle position. This will sound more "airy" but
it'll be a very good sound. A great sound actually

2nd position - there will be no hum cancelling but it
may have a reduced hum than if you had the single coil
on alone.

4th position - yes, you can wire it up for the TB-4 to
be coil split and humbucking with the middle single
coil. this will sound kind of like an acoustic but
bright. a very good tone can be had from this
position. Lots of funk players use this position. I
could describe this sound as "Spanky".

Good luck and please tell me how it sounds when it
gets done. There are other guys on the forum that are
know a bunch more than me ... Artietoo, Lewguitar and
a slew of others. These guys are the best to ask
about position 2. They would have more experience
with that particular setup.
