SH-11 Custom Custom Question

Has anyone here tried a Custom Custom in a Gibson Les Paul. I have 2 Fender Strats with TB-11 in them and it's almost the the holy grail of tone to me in the bridge of a Strat. I was wondering how much the tone would change in the bridge of a Les Paul?

well, lp's are definately darker than strats, so the tone will be darker, but if you love the custom custom in your strat, i dont think your gonna hate it in an lp

Re: SH-11 Custom Custom Question

I just put one in my cousin's Les Paul Studio last weekend, but I only got to try it for about 15 minutes. I liked the tone, and it has tons more sustain than the stock pickup. However, it was so warm that it almost sounded like a neck pickup. I guess that could be good or bad depending on what sound you're going for.

Re: SH-11 Custom Custom Question

I love the Custom Custom in my Hamer Monocos (semihollowbody) so I tried one in a '92 Hamer Studio...like a PRS or double cutaway Les Paul.

I thought it sound awesome through a cranked Marshall or cranked Fender tweed Bassman, the same amp the Marshall is based on. Very EVH like tone with the amp cranked.

At lower volumes and through my blackface Fenders I was less impressed and felt the CC sounded restrained.

But if you're going to rock...go for it. The CC sounded dynamite at rock volumes.

Re: SH-11 Custom Custom Question

Is there a guitar a CC isn't a great match for? People seem to get great results with it in LPs, SGs, Strats...

Could you use it to create a mandolin on steriods?

Re: SH-11 Custom Custom Question

I think the CC really shines in a semi acoustic guitar and that it sounds great in my Monoco no matter what amp or volume I'm playing at. I've never heard one in a Gibson 335 but I suspect it would work beautifully there too.

I liked it less in my solid body Hamer Studio because it only sounded GREAT to me when I played it loud. It sounded fantastic in the Hamer Studio when played through my 59 Bassman on 6 or so.

I like the CC with another a2 neck humbucker. I use it with an Antiquity or Seth Lover.

Re: SH-11 Custom Custom Question

Well I just bought a Les Paul Classic and the Stock 500 and 496 are a little too much for me. I got a good deal on it and wanted the 60's style neck so I sort of knew ahead of time the stock pickups were Ebay bound. I guess I like the sound of the Custom Custom so much in my strats that I was just wondering how much the Mahogany wood would change its tone. It seems to me just on what I have read on guitar woods and tone that the Custom 14 would be a better fit.

Re: SH-11 Custom Custom Question

I have one in an Alder bodied, neck-thru V-shaped guitar (a Kramer) with an original floyd rose trem...

At super-distorsion levels... it sounds too nasel to me, and not enough harmonic overtones.

Re: SH-11 Custom Custom Question

Hey Stevo any chance of setting your amp on 1 setting and playing a simlar chord progression and short lead using the JB and the CC? I am looking for new puips for my new LP. It has stock BB Pros and I want more crunch and lots of sustain. I have a Marshall TSL100.
thanks
