sh-11 custom custom vs patb-1 parallel axis trembucker for bridge

I have a USA select King V (KV2) with the following specs: Neck thru construction, maple neck, alder wings (body), ebony fretboard, 59 neck, and jb bridge. I find the pickups in there now to be not balanced with the instrument (i.e. the jb is nice and articulate but has too much shrill highs while the 59 is too boomy). I play metal mostly and will be running the guitar thru an Engl Savage 120 with an engl pro cab (celestion v30s). That amp will give me a good amount of highs and mids, but will lack a little on the low end. It is a very tight sounding amp that is not loose by any means as far as bass resonse goes.

I had a previous post which got me thinking on on which pickups, but now I find myself stuck between bridge pick ups. For the neck pick up, I have decided on an APH-1 rather than a 59. For the bridge, I am stuck between a sh-11 custom custom or a patb-1 parallel axis trembucker. Between the two, which pickup has a better and tighter bass response? I will be playing with gauge .010 to .011 strings with standard E and sometimes may down tune to C tuning. The custom custom description said it has a spongy bass response, but I thing the amp will compensate for that.

Thanks in advance,

Eric

P.S. I have listened to the clips and I hear very little difference between the patb-1 and the sh-11 except for output levels and possibly a little more bass with the patb-1, but in my guitar things might be different.

First of all, keep in mind that this is coming from a PATB1-lover...

I've had a CC and a PATB1 in the same guitar. The CC only lasted a couple days. It just sounded a bit "dull". The PATB1 seem tighter with more definition.

Thanks Austin, the PATB-1 sounds what I'm looking for then. My amp has enough gain and I do not think I will need a high gain pick up. Tightness and definition are key factors.

Hey Eric. Your choice may already have been made for you, depending on how your pickups cavities are routed. The Patb-series only comes in trembucker sizing (Fender bridge pickup size, basically) They are too big to fit in the standard (Gibson) size pickup rings / routing. At least that is my understanding, looking at the dimensions.

You may HAVE to go with the Custom-Custom.

i had a PATB-2, it fitted in my jackson KE with the mounting rings and stuff. so in the king v it should be ok, but just to be sure just measure it first. you dont wanna have to buy something and cant use it. but im pretty sure it'll fit

I ran into that problem before with different pickups. I think I will have to go with a custom custom or a custom 5. The pickup cavity on my king v is really tight.

Patb if it will fit. C5 if it won't. PATB-1 is the best modern pickup SD makes. It will do classic rock and lighter forms of music too, but it really shines under gain.

A agree with Jeff. The PATB is a great sounding pickup and should fit fine. The output should be about the same as the Custom serie too, at least shouldn't be a very noticeable difference, it will probably sound cleaner than the CC because it has less mids. Great pickup, I have a couple of them.

really? ive seen a bunch of LPs that people have put PATB's in. also, dont they come with their own pickup ring? so thats not a problem.
