SH-15 Alt. 8 after first full band practice...

Just a short post to record my feelings about this pickup after playing though my 100w Marshall half stack and full band.

That pickup has got some balls, no doubt, definitely stronger then a Gibson 498t or Dimarzio Tone Zone...

Channel switching into my lead channel brought huge grins to my face..WOW! That thing has some CUT...My solos were loud and powerful as hell, cutting through the mix with the authority of an 1980's era Mike Tyson punch!

Staccato lows on single strings while alternate picking are super tight...and pinch harmonics are just sick...

It DOES though have a different voice then the A5 equipped pickups...to my ears different...I can't describe it. I really love the voice of the A5 magnet, and believe it epitomizes the sound of a high output vintage guitar sound, especially in a Gibson.

I am not sure thus far if I like it more or less, but I do LOVE the performance! I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of getting used to it..

In the meantime I'm gonna have fun peeling paint with this blow torch of a pickup!:naughty:

Cool, nice review man. Been hearing quite a bit about the alt8 recently. It's the only high output Duncan I haven't tried.

Hoew does it compare to an Evolution? Or a Full Shred?

I used an alt8 for about a year in a guitar .its a unique sounding PU for sure

I really liked its vibe then one rehersal I just started to be over it .I started hearing this cocked wah mid thing I couldnt unhear

I never flipped it thoguh. still got it in my box of bit and pieces. want to try it again one day in another guitar when I'm feeling it

Would you be interested in a trade for a custom for your Alt 8?
