Sh-16 issue

Hey folks,

I recently picked up an sh-1n and an sh-16 and installed them in my LP. Like them both but the sh-16 introduces more noise than I expected when I throw on gain. Any advice? Or should I replace the sh-16 for something else? If so, and advice for a versatile bridge pup that can still rock?

Actually, it should be pretty quiet. First thing to check is if both coils are working. Tap the top of each coil with a screwdriver to make sure you are getting sound. If you have a meter, let us know what the reading of the pickup is. Also, some clear pics of your wiring will help us to sort this out.

It's not noisy by any stretch, but a 59/C is gonna be slightly noisier than any humbucker with matched coils is. My first guess is maybe you've got a cold solder joint on the switch connections for the SH-16?

Thanks for the follow ups, folks. I guess we will find out if wiring was an issue as I have to replace it anyway. I was pulling knobs off so I could shore up the shielding in the cavity and a damn shaft broke off the potentiometer. Using it as an opportunity just to rewire the whole guitar. Fingers crossed!
