Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

if I am not wrong, Bonamassa has a signature set that was only available through the custom shop and I am quite sure there is no SH-17

That is exactly what I thought. And I couldn't find anything about Sh-17 on Google as you said..

Someone covered the idea the other week that it might be a while after the limited runs expire before they are made production models (as with the WLH, BW, Alpha-Omega, etc).

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

Bonamassas look like this on the back. Should have two signatures and a handwritten serial number. It's a Custom Shop-only pickup, so there is no production part number.

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

Yeah, analyzing the parts of which the p'up was made, I came to the conclusion that they're FAKE. Those baseplates have never, ever been used by Duncan, let alone the Custom Shop!

They're *not* Bonamassas, not even Duncan either. Nice stickers, and surprisingly high attention to detail, though. However, they didn't get the right parts for the Bonamassa model, as they don't use 4-con leads, only vintage braided.

They got the screws and the output leads so right they're virtually indistinguishable for the ones Duncan actually use. Also the faux ageing of the covers look quite alright, if you ask me.

If I didn't have the experience I have with Duncan products and their production codes, I could've easily fallen into the trap.

Caveat Emptor indeed!

I assumed that they might be from 2012 gibson bonamassa goldtop.. but they look brand new. (leads had never been soldered)

HTH,

Thank you for all the details! I myself have never seen duncan pickup with the base plate with 12 holes (for Sh and Tb type) And as you mentioned, 4 conductor wires with short legs don't make sense. Nice sticker, though.
Now I don't have to buy fake and waste my money. :)

No caveat Emptor!

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

what can you say about the Skinner set?

could you contrast/compare it to other sets you have?

I have tried most of paf-ish pickups, throbak sle, dt, sheptone, antiquity, bonamassa Magellan, a few of bareknuckle, re-wind.. etc etc including early62 pat#.. in same guitar with the same set up..

and this bonamassa skinner burst set is ranked in Top 3 of my favorites. Neck pickup is open and clear, not muddy, just enough creamyness. Bridge pickup, Low strings at 1~5th fret have growl and articulation and at higher position, it is not too harsh or spiky but warm and articulate. It just sounds RIGHT. I don't say this because I bought and paid for the pickups. There aren't many pickups which gave me this impression. I bought another set. I strongly recommend!

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

I haven't tried the Skinnerburst (I don't own an LP, not a big Joe fan, and they were limited edition), but the reviews I have read and heard have been great.

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

Hi, new member here. I am heavily considering the Skinner Burst set for my early '90s FugiGen MIJ Les Paul. I think based on what I have heard and read and how my guitar sound unplugged this set will sound killer in it. I am not about to imply that some sets are better, but are there any known differences in the set numbers of these pickups? Any materials changes or batches of wire, magnets, ect? Thanks!

They're real, SH17 Bonamassa set, and worth a lot, you should have contacted MJ who actually works at Seymour Duncan

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

If it exists, Joe will get his name on it. He hasn't caught up with Gene Simmons...yet. Can the Joe Bonamassa lunch box be that far off?

Re: Sh-17 Bonamassa pickup??

Look, if anyone wants to be sure that what they are buying is a genuine Seymour Duncan pickup, buy it directly from Seymour Duncan or a genuine Seymour Duncan dealer.

You can not order the SH17 Bonamassa set through any authorized Seymour Duncan dealer
