SH-2 Bridge and Neck

Hey guys.

I´ve started looking in to the SH-2 Jazz for both positions in my Les Paul.
Anyone who uses them in both position?
**** hard to find any youtube video were it´s in the bridge position.

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

I loved the jazz neck and bridge, but i use it now uncovered. Not that scooped as the 59 but more even. I loved it with high gain amps like boogie, a more modern sound with PAF flavor.

I´m using a Peavey Windsor Studio all valve amp not goin full on pre-amp 7/12 and also using low gain input and depend on the power amp for distortion and i also have a MXR GT-OD overdrive pedal, so i´m going for a beefed up british sound and i also dial in alot of mids :D he he and som treble to.
Modern with PAF flavour sounds like something i would like :)

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

I have a Jazz set in my Vantage DL-405 ('80s MIJ LP Custom copy) and it sounds just great.

The bridge p'up sounded a bit too bright for my liking, so I've put an A8 magnet in it and now it just rocks! It gave a singing quality that wasn't really there before and balanced the highs with the neck p'up. Plus, the "both-on" position changed from "very good" to "to die for".

HTH,

HTH,

I´m trying to gather different magnets so i can try different sounds.
But i´ll see when i can get my hands on the Jazz pickups and if i get a Alnico 8 magnet i´ll try it :)

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

I highly recomend them! A great and highly overlooked set.

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

Double Jazz is one of those "sleeper" sets. dudes who have generally have nothing but awesomeness to say about it.

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

jollie's got clips of metal style riffs played on a jazz set-equipped les paul on his soundclick. they sound pretty damm good!

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

See, I was thinking of getting a Distortion Mayhem set, but now wtf!!

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

I tried a Jazz bridge in my mahogany warmoth LP. I loved it for clean tones, but didn't care for it with distortion. I like the Jazz neck though in the same guitar. But I did have a Jazz/Jazz for about a week.

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

As long as your amp and pedals can give such amounts of distortion:)
But YEAH they sound great with alot of distortion :D:yourock:

Dude, I have a 6505+ and it has more gain than I will ever need!! I actually use 250K pots with higher output pickups like JB, Custom, or distortion and 500K with 59'n and Jazz neck in my RGs. Two volumes and no tone controlls because I never use them. I like brighter sounding pickups with a solid mid and tight bass. Do you think a Jazz set with 500k pots on both bridge and neck can do this? Like I said I am thinking about a Distortion set with 250k volume pots to lower the output so I can control them better and smooth them out a bit. Works wonders with the JB!

Does the Jazz have more mids than the 59? The tone chart suggests it's about as scooped, and have more treble.

I'm thinking about buying a Jazz Neck, just because I've found a better deal with it, versus a 59n.

I already own an APH1 - best neck pickup ever! - and a PGn. And I even found the PGn a little too bright.

Thanks!

Re: SH-2 Bridge and Neck

The Jazz isn't as scooped as the '59; nor is it as spiked as the '59. This is both good (a more balanced EQ), and bad (less inherent character). To my ears, it seems to have a bit more treble, but its treble is spread out across a wider range -- not as focused as a '59's. I find that it responds well to subtle variations in touch (which is itself both good and bad).
