Sh-2B jazz for doom/ stoner metal

I've heard good things about the jazz bridge. I have the neck model in now with a JB (real inspired, I know) I wanna know if anyone had any experience either the jazz bridge and has though about my proposed application. I'm putting it in a Korean made ltd Viper (it's solid, heavier than some les Pauls), tuned to C#, played though line 6 helix

My thought is that I can use this bright, vintage style pickup do I can crank the gain and fuzz without mushing out. The JB is cool, but it being so midheavy, hard to control the mush factor at that tuning

im not a doom or stoner metal guy but your second post makes a lot of sense to me

Re: Sh-2B jazz for doom/ stoner metal

So, you are probably using ALOT of pre amp gain, in which case almost any level of output in a pickup is usable...Stephan from SUNN (((0))) uses a p90 lester into a RAT into a Big Muff into Stacks of rather clean vintage 100w heads
Your main concern is eq, you dont really need a super tight low end cause of the tones of the genre but ive found great success with a Nazgul loaded SG into a muff into the red channel of a 5150...noise gate required, ha! The Nazgul and Jazz Bridge could not be more different. Opposite eq profiles, that said i'll bet you could get an amazing doom tone from an sh-2B...you'll probably need an eq pedal or aTube Screamer type boost at the end of your distortion signal chain...you can do that within the Helix correct?

For that setup, I'd lean toward inherently clean pickups. The Jazz bridge is a good idea, but don't discount the idea of an A2 Pro. It's the same coils as the Jazz, but with a weaker magnet. It'll be a "juicier" and more "round" sounding pickup (less brittle high end, warmer mids, looser yet quieter low end), and won't hit the amp as hard as the Jazz.

Dimebucker works well for that application(clarity and tight attack with super fuzzed-out gain levels), although with much more output there isn't the need to blast the fuzz/gain quite so much.
Generally speaking the stoner/doom guys like the alnico mags better though, so the jazzB might well be perfect.

Don't forget...the SLUG.

It's fat, gnarly, and insanely high-output - it's the SLUG. Measuring at 48k DCR, it gives off an immense sound that is perfect for stoner and doom metal.

Jason Hook uses a JB and he is playing baritone. I think his tone is killer. I don’t hear any mush there

Personally, I would have picked a set of 59s or something that to my ears sounded a little warmer/ thicker (I have a 59n with an SH-5 in my stoner rock LP studio), but I don't see any problem with using a Jazz set to get that sort of "super-charged vintage" sound, and the Jazz might keep the sound less mushy at C#.

Full Shred? Moderate output, tight, and percussive.
I would like to try the Jazz bridge in a high-gain application, but I’ve always shird away and put my money toward a safer bet.
