SH-4 or SH-6 for Epiphone Korina Flying V?

Hi all,

I'm just trying to decide which bridge pickup to put in my Epiphone Korina Flying V. Narrowed it down to JB or Duncan Distortion. Any thoughts?

I don't like a very low tone on the guitar. I like sharpness and clean attack. Got rid of the tone knob and rewired the guitar in a simple way, just one volume control for the two pickups.

I play old school Heavy Metal, Speed Metal and early Thrash. 80's stuff.

Any advice would be very appreciated!

And by the way, I'm using heavy gauge strings, D'addario 12-54.

Get whichever is least expensive. They both show up used on here, eBay, Reverb, etc. The difference between the two is basically an A5 magnet in the JB and a ceramic magnet in the Distortion. Then if you are not happy with the tone, for ~$5 and some of your time you can try swapping the magnet to the other.

A Duncan Distortion is what you want. I'm guessing you are down-tuning with 12's.

It has the tightest bass of the two. It has pumped mids and highs. The Ceramic magnet will scream just like you want. It is the sound of early Metallica.

They both sound bad ass to me. If you like aggressive, the DD with ceramic will have the edge. An A5 DD sounds differently than a JB.

Nope. Standard tuning. But the 'Gibson' scale is a bit shorter so the tension is not insane. Pretty tight though. I just hate floppy strings, especially on the low strings.

My vote is the Distortion, although there is a little bit of the mid honk with the DD, not as prominent as the JB, which I find grating

I will probably go for the DD.

Thanks everyone for your comments!

Yes, another vote for the Distortion. I think the EQ is better for what you like (and don't like). Both are easy-to-find pickups, so if you get one, come back and let us know how it sounds.

Good call. That guitar is perfect specs to compliment the distortion,,,and vice-versa. A match made in hell!
