SH-6 or PATB-3 for LP DC with tapping

Hi all,
I need some opinons on what to get for my bridge PU.
I want to do something different with my LP DC. It has the tone chambers and lots of natural bass...even more than my old LP Std.

I have a JB on this guitar now but it just isn't a marriage. I love the JB when tapped, but in HB config, it just isn't cut out for hi gain stuff with this guitar.

I really need something that taps well since I use this guitar as my "wonder guitar". I also need something with not much bass since the way the guitar is naturally. I have a StagMag in the neck position which taps exceptionally well with a good Strat. neck position tone.

And PATB-3....does the pole pieces actually improve sustain and feedback for holding long notes with hi-gain?

Thanks!

That Stag Mag is a great neck pup, eh? I notice that you have yours mounted backwards, so that the lower pole is under the A string. I assume you did that on purpose. How does that affect your sound?

Btw: Welcome to the forum. :)

I really like the SM...sounds like a P90 in HB and very Stratty when tapped & it seems to work well with this guitar. If you look at the DC, the neck PU is moved closer to the bridge due to the 24 fret neck. I like this....but I reversed the PU in order to get the tapped coil the closest to the neck. I really cannot tell if it has sound issues in regards to the pole piece issue...but it might be an issue for someone else that has a more critical ear. If you play with lots of gain on this, it kinda overcomes any pole height issues anyway.

I will say that when it's tapped, if you EQ the rest of your gear, you can pretty much nail that Strat neck PU tone (which I love). But I use EQ to help with this since you have to boost the treble quite a bit. This is mostly a SRV type tone with gain.
Playing clean? Well let's just say I don't even get a good Strat tone with my Strat playing clean. I guess that's one reason why I don't play my Strat. :haha:

Bump.....no opinions on using the PATB-3 with my guitar?

I thought I read that this PU has lots of bass or was for Strat type bodies?

The PATB-3 is a great All-rounder...
PATBs tend to have a natural eq ,lots of midds ,and nice highs...
The sustain is tob die for..Nothing has more sustain than a PATB...I did many experiments with my CS 7 string PATB ,compared to many PUs on the same guitar...
The PATB-1 is more like the JB in output ,but it's full sounding ,nice singing ,and tighter for playing nice Rythm under high-gain...

+1....PATB's just can't be beat - I have a Crazy 8 in the bridge of my Quicksilver - best I've ever had in any guitar. I've had all the other PATB's at some point or another also and have been happy with all of them. If you want more mids and output than a PAF'ish sound usually gives you, I recommend the PATB-1. The -3 is a great PU too though...
