SH11 with B tuning - ever tried that?

Hi there guys.
I've got here a SH11 and I was wondering how it would sound onto a 1984 Carvin V220 (set neck - maple body - maple neck - ebony fingerboard) with B-tuning (B-E-A-D-F#-B).
Did somebody ever tried that? Ofc I'll use heavy strings (12-56).

Re: SH11 with B tuning - ever tried that?

I had a guitar with a CC tuned to C# for old Sabbath stuff. Sounded great to me.

i'd expect that to sound great, based on my experience. the only pickups i've tried so far that really handled B-tuning well are the CC and the screamin demon.

If your case is:
Bright guitar + Middy pickup + Low tuning + Tight amp = HEAVEN :headbang:

Just my 2 cents

Funny how metal dudes think they're so "cutting edge" with C tuning thing, when Albert King was doing it 50 years ago.

The cutting edge in metal is not tuning your guitar at all, Venom did that 30 years ago too.

+1, I think with your setup you should have no problem dialing in a good tone in B, so long as your amp has the balls to keep from getting flubby or loose.

Maybe the folks here don't think so, but I've heard some goofy things from metal dudez who act like detuning is a modern innovation.

I love the CC's bass response and I've detuned mine to C# before and I really like it. Very throaty and tough.

so... now that you've had your b1tch about "metal dudes", you're agreeing?

To the OP, if it doesn't work, shove a ceramic up it's bum. :naughty:

in my opinion, 12-56 strings aren't good enough for B tuning. i would say try to get up to 14-60 or the likes, just to make sure. else than that it should sound perfect in your bright guitar.

Most of the time I don't like anything bigger than a .056" for a low B. A string bigger than that gets too "woofy" for my tastes. But overall there are too many variables between guitars to say what is right or wrong for a given tuning. Check out my real and perceived tension thread for more info:

56 will be fine. Hell, 54 will be fine.
It just depends on your picking hand. I used to use 54, but then went up to 56, and now use a 59 for the B (I play 7 strings though, the rest of the 6 strings are 9-42).
I once tried 64, but it just didn't work for me unless I tuned it to A.

yeah, you're probably right about the woofiness. i experienced that with the Ernie Ball not even slinky set. (in E standard. olol.) but the tightness should be there. maybe the string brand (and brightness) would fix that woofiness. i plan on trying out the Elixir baritone set.

anyways, thanks for the article. i remember i saved it somewhere to read it later. i guess i'll do it right now.

Re: SH11 with B tuning - ever tried that?

Carcass used 11-56 on RG's tuned to B. If you don't use stupid thick picks it helps.
