SH6 / SH5 and SH2 Jazz Combo for SG ?

I have Vintage VS6 SG. i decided to pull of the stock PAF Wilkinsons and use that guitar for early heavy metal and thrash metal. In the neck will be Jazz, as i read is better for heavy solos than 59. i heard that better for an SG is SH5 Custom so there comes a question: i am wondering what kind of metal can i achieve with that pickup? is it more for modern metal? i need that guitar only for early heavy/thrash metal, nothing else. bands like Metallica, Saxon, Judas Priest, Annihilator, Testament, Anthrax, Dio, Megadeth, Savatage, Heathen, Forbidden, Pantera etc. i also have Vintage V 100 LES PAUL, which sounds cool for mainly hard rock, blues...

But i would rather keep that guitar for rock, as SG has more comfortable neck acess on higher frets, it's easier to achieve upper frets with SG than with Les Paul...

Mainly question is which kinds of metal i can achieve if i decide for SH5 & Jazz Combo for SG? ( i already have one SH5, one SH6, SH2n Jazz, SH1n 59 pickups, waiting to go on these two guitars )

Please, help with suggestions, thanks !

I heard lots of people liked the SH-6 in an SG, I use it in my schecter and it is flat out the best metal pickup I've ever used. For thrash metal and downtuning I would definitely pick the SH-6. However, the Custom has this growl that you can't get with the SH-6, and the chugs sounds HUGE!

Here is a clip I found on YouTube of the custom.

How is the Jazz in combination with SH6? can it add some bass if the both pickups are selected? i think i'll go and give a chance SH6 first... and later, if i wouldn't like it, maybe i'll put the SH5 in.

Never used the Jazz, sorry. But I heard lots and lots of good things about the SH-6/SH-2 combo so I'm sure you will like it. I use the DDn in the neck position of my guitar. It's tight, clear, loud, and fluid. One of my favorite neck pickups I've used so far.

What kind of amp are you using? An SH5/SH2 can get you into whatever metal territory you want...with the right amount of gain. If you have a super high gain amp, you can do anything from blues to the most insane modern metal with that combo.

I am using Roland Cubes 20X and 40XL. it has built in different amp models, like Peavey 6505, to Mesa Boogie, i don't know which model.... i will be soon buy the valve combo Engl Gigmaster 15. And then for the band Engl Thunder 50 Combo. why most of the people there recommends SH5 and not SH6 pickup in SG ? where's the reason SH5 sounds better than SH6 in that guitar ?

Re: SH6 / SH5 and SH2 Jazz Combo for SG ?

Regarding amps, I've had a Roland Cube 30, and still keep a Cube 60 around. IMO you're not gonna really notice a huge distinction swapping pickups with those type of amps. FWIW, I did have the Jazz neck/Distortion bridge combo in my LTD, and the Distortion pretty much nailed sounds like Dokken, Iron Maiden, etc.

See what difference it makes once you get your Engl(s), those should be nice amps!

Ok ! i think i'll go SH6 & SH2 Jazz for the beggining and will see how it works !

In that video clip i really like that Dimarzio pickup sound much more than SH5 Custom... and i already heard a lot of you tube clips of
SH6 Distortion: i really like it more than SH5 !

I agree that on tube amp are bigger tonal differences from that guitar to other guitar. but i still hear the difference on that amps with strat, or sg, or les paul. it's not that bad, but as i said i'll buy engl amps someday as the prices and quality and versality are very good on those amps !
