No, they are not even close to the same. The output of the Livewire is so insaine, it makes the DD seem like it is low output in comparision. Hell, the livewire makes any pickup seem that way. Even EMG's.

IMO, if you like tons of gain and way over the top, the livewire Heavy Metal is a wonderful purchase.

Re: SH6 vs Livewire Metal

would power chords sound good with a livewire metal?

would there be too much gain, or could i make it sound powerful?

It will be great for power chords and it will sound more powerful than the DD. BTW, you may have to turn the gain down when using a LW. I am telling you, it is sick!

If you like em hot with lots of output, get one!!!!!

Re: SH6 vs Livewire Metal

The Metal has a ridiculous grind to it, the chart says it has chopped high end but oh man it has this ridiculous grinding sound to it, I'd say it's got pretty much a flat EQ, it just owns your soul, heh. I haven't played the "flat" X2N but the livewire metal is just so ridiculously loud that an EQ chart isn't really representative of how it sounds.

Re: SH6 vs Livewire Metal

i just put in my new livewire metal and it is sick. i have never used a DD so i wouldnt be able to compare, but i can honestly say this thing is a beast that i have never heard the likes of before. i find myself playing with the gain at 3 and still getting a sick tone. Though its deffinitely a pickup made with leads in mind, it can do wonderful rhythms too

Re: SH6 vs Livewire Metal

I used to have a clip up here of me overdriving a silverface Twin Reverb with mine.

I haven't tried the Distortion, but I understand it's a great pickup.

Re: SH6 vs Livewire Metal

I got an SH-6 in my Epi Les Paul and a Livewire HMET in the bridge of my Explorer .. . . . there is no comparison at all!

Both have nice clean metal tones and crushing chunk, but the livewire is like nothing ever made . . . I actually had to turn my amp DOWN!
Never done that before. .. . it is WAY beyond anything ever made.

If you point it at the stars and run it through a wah all the way up, you can hear life on mars! Yeah its that loud!
:rocket:
