i wanna know 'cuase i'm really tired of the obnoxious hum that comes when my hands aren't touching the strings.
True singles will hum even with shielding.....its part of their DNA. Its interference from lighting or dirty power that shielding will help remove.
well, so both are good, and ground from bridge is not required, so the next question is, how to properly shield a guitar?
I have tried shielding the cavity on a few occasions, couldn't tell any real benefits to it... Don't worry about it anymore.
Try an ISP Decimator.... its a hiss sucking machine!
No matter what you do, you can't stop single coil pickups from humming. But shielding gets rid of a lot of extra noise. IMO, shielding is very much worth the time and money. You will know what I mean if you ever play anywhere close to fluorescent lights.
