Shift 2001

Hello,

I have one of these fancy Shift 2001 tremolo bridges, made by Answer (?), made in Japan. I believe at some point Washburn provided this same design under their brand.

It has quite a lot of precision machined small components, and it seems to be put together rather nicely.

However I have not much experience on this trem. I do not quite get what everything those functions are ment to do, actually.

For example those adjustable "elevation pieces" near fine tuners. What is their actual function?

check out washburn - they used the following bridge too

Oyy, Thanks crusty philtrum! Great find!

Yeah, it was also sold as Washburn Wonderbar.

I spotted this ad (I think it's an ad) for Argus ST Kyowa Shokai, said to be original Chushin Gakki model (my Charvel Model 4 was made in there, too, indeed certain similarities with this one).

Anyway, it says this tremolo design is originally by Argus. Is this really so?

It's rare to see one intact. Most of the pawn shop guitars you see with them are missing pieces.

Re: Shift 2001

Thanks for your compliments. :) It is used, but in good shape.

Tremolo arm seating goes in a threaded hole. During the last rotation before hitting the bottom, the arm does not rotate freely anymore. It's not due to tightening threads, instead it feels like there is a plate spring (or similar) on the bottom of the hole that pushes against the threaded end during the last millimeters, or so.

I've had it for around 15 years, never used it in a guitar. Not intending to sell it though. I have seen those incredible homebrew guitar projects in this forum, and I'm tempted to try something like that, too.

I bought it with a bottle of "Koskenkorva Viina" booze. Yes I know, it's sad, but that was the asking price.
