Which 8-string pickup is closest to the JB in tone? Whichever it is, please compare/contrast the tone to the JB.

Let's say I get a stock 8-string and I'm not satisfied. Would I be able to exchange it for a shop floor custom JB 8-string (plus the extra $$ involved in a shop floor custom)? Is a shop floor custom JB 8-string in soapbar housing possible, or would I have to go full-on custom shop?

I don't know for sure but...

I'd think since the an 8 string JB ins't a production model you'd be looking at full on custom shop prices.

That being said, The 8 string duncan distortion might get you close to what an 8 string JB would sound like. Especially with a mag swap.

Another thing to consider is that 7 & 8 string pickups don't always sound exactly like their 6 string counterparts. For instance, the 6 string JB and the 7 string JB sound a little different from one another. I know they do their best to get them the same.
