Should I have ordered a trembucker?

Hi i'm new to these forums and i have a question about trembuckers in strats. I recently just started modding my 1997 affinity squier strat (alder body) and I ordered the Sh-1 '59 for the bridge and the sh-2n for the neck but i'm not sure if I should have ordered the trembucker version of the '59 instead. I called a local music shop today and they said that trembuckers were made for guitars with floyd rose tremolos, however after searching around on these forums it seems that most people are buying the trembucker versions of various Seymour Duncan pickups for their strats. I'm buying a new tremolo for my guitar also and its a vintage tremolo made for mexican and over seas manufactured strats. I'm trying to achieve a weezer-esque tone and i'm confused about which hum/trem bucker i should be getting. Thanks.

Re: Should I have ordered a trembucker?

You should get a trembucker spaced version for your guitar.
Trembuckers are not made for Floyd Rose equiped guitars only, but for all guitars with a trem bridge OR wider string spacing at the bridge (I have put Trembuckers in Les Pauls for example).

Re: Should I have ordered a trembucker?

a normal spaced humbuker will work just fine...though trembucker would IMO asteticaly look better.
The trembuckers are made just not only for FLOYD and locking trem guitars but also for guitars with a wider bridge spacing.. so even on a vintage tremelo, I would prefer a trembucker.. BUT HEY FRET NOT.. it will work fine.
The best way is what Seymour says:
A quick and easy way to tell which you need is to measure from the middle of the high string to the middle of the low string, directly over the pickup. If the distance is greater than two inches or 50mm, go for a Trembucker. If it's less than two inches or 50mm, go for a humbucker.

Actually if you are going to a Mexican bridge, you should be fine with the standard. The MIM spacing is a little narrower than the vintage or the American standard. Honestly, I really don't think it matters a whole lot anyways. I've never had a problem with Standard spacing on any Floyd Guitar I've had, so I think you'll be fine, but others will disagree. As for a Weezer tone, I really don't know what the heck Rivers Cuomo (spelling?) uses, so I'm no help there. Welcome!!

I am in the process of getting a cutom guitar made..... with wilkinson trem.. I am puttin a JB trembucker in the bridge. I might also put a vintage trem. either way I would go for the Trembucker.

It seems that EVH had a regular spaced bucker in his Floyd equipped Frankenstrat and it didn't seem to affect his sound on those first few albums, I'd say. : )

So true , except for the part about the Floyd being used on the first few VH albums.

Re: Should I have ordered a trembucker?

I believe EVH also had the pup crooked to line up the poles.

Re: Should I have ordered a trembucker?

Well after doing some research I think i'm gonna send back the Sh-1 and Sh-2n and get the Trembucker '59 for the bridge and the Dimarzio Super Distortion II for the neck. Fortunately I ordered the sh-1 and 2 from Musicians Friend so returns won't be a hassle. However, does this sound like a good setup though? It's what Rivers Cuomo from Weezer used in his strats on their earlier records and thats the tone that i'm aiming for.
