Should I jump on this Crate?

This amp has been up for a couple days. I have no experience with these at all. Did a little research, and see they are selling for $600+ online at a couple places. I also watched a couple YouTube vids, and it seemed to have decent tone.

Re: Should I jump on this Crate?

Sooooo, not a steal and a half at $180? Really don't need another amp at the moment, but stuff with instant "equity" interests me, and if it's a kick-azz little amp....even better.

Re: Should I jump on this Crate?

because Musicians Friend was blowing them out ridiculously cheapo, one time. Its a Good amp ( see my joe walsh / Crate thread). But 120.00, you can get it for that, because even though its a great deal, thats about all its going to sell for .
I've had one kind of famous Crate amp on my local Craigslist for two years now.
I'm getting ready to list it on ebay- very poor resale value/ no interest locally .
That guy isn't going to sell the Crate for 180. Even try a hundred cash.

I've heard good things about Tone Tubby.

Re: Should I jump on this Crate?

I have the V18 - it is a good series of amp, but they benefit from very light modding (sometimes just tweaking the tube assignments, different reverb tank, etc.) and being very gentle with them. They are not built like tanks. But it's not a bad circuit. See if he'll let you audition it, and decide from there.

Re: Should I jump on this Crate?

The speaker is probably worth at least $100. If you need to flip it later you could always put in a cheap 12" speaker and sell it.

Re: Should I jump on this Crate?

As a general rule of thumb, jumping on an amplifier regardless of its make, is not a good idea... :)

Re: Should I jump on this Crate?

Good amp, but not amazing.

For < 150, jump on it, kick it, knock it over, whatever…
