I'm currently working on building a guitar. I made a custom body shape, but I'm not sure if I should use it or just make a normal already existing model like a strat, les paul, explorer, ect...
This is the shape I came up with.PhotoScam.jpg

Needs a bigger "ass"... the bottom part of the body is out of proportion to the horns.

Re: Should I use this body shape?

I always follow one key rule when designing my guitars...

Design it the way you want it!

If you want it to be more conventional in shape, then make it so. If you want it to be very different from convention (like smaller lower body and bigger horns), then make it so.

(Unless, of course you are designing it per a customer's wishes).

Re: Should I use this body shape?

I like your second design (with equal horns) the best, looks quite neat in my opinion. GuitarDoc gave a great advice I think, to design it the way you want it!(unless you are making the guitar for someone else). But I got to say your second design looks appealing to me! If I were to name that model, I'd call it the Viking or Berserker, something with a Norse theme because of the horns reminding me strongly of a Viking helmet!!
Keep us posted on what you finally decide to make will you? The design sure has potential! :bigthumb:

Re: Should I use this body shape?

I like the concept. Have my own ideas of how I'd refine this. Offset the horns and change the proportions some. Then there's the comfort contours to consider. Don't start cutting wood until you are totally satisfied with the drawing and all other features.

For me it looks like Paul Gilbert's ibanez fireman with the horns bent in... But it's just my opinion, it looks great I think
