SHPR1 P-Rails broken??

Hi guys,

i have a problem:

i have a SHPR1 in my guitar now.

Everything works correct but the P-90 "sound". There´s absolute no difference to the Humbucker-Serial-Sound.

-> I tested something: If i touch the magnets of the coils with a screwdriver in split mode of the SHPR1 both coils are "clicking" (dont know how to explain it, or how its called in englis). The SH-5 and all other pickups i had, didn´t do this! When they are in split mode, the "splitted" coil is silent!

Is my shpr1 "defect" or "broken" ??

If both coils are clicking, both coils are active, and the pickup isn't split.

It's more likely that there is a problem with the wiring than with the pickup itself. I would recheck your soldering.

I don't think that problem would be caused by a defective pickup, sounds like the problem is elsewhere. Check all your solder joints, and check none of the contacts on your push-pulls have come into contact with each other.

Thats really strange, both coils are "clicking" but if the coils are split one of them is "more" silent and not totally.

I soldered the out of the Pickup now right to the Vol. pot. -> same problem.

I have checked the Push/Pull pots too they work correct.

Try soldering your pickup wires to the push pull switches, and then directly to the jack (i.e. without going through the pots)

I have P-Rails and have done the same test, mine are hooked up to triple shot rings and both coils click no matter what setting I have it on.

Check your wiring on the triple shots. It's possible you've accidentally connected something you shouldn't have.

@goarmy1: How "big" ist the difference between the P90 and Humbucker-Serial sound on your SHPR1??

Even though both coils click on mine you can tell a differance on all sounds. Between P-90 and Series Humbucker is a pretty big differance. Not much volume but a lot in tone. the P-90 is a lot brighter and does not distort as much. The Seiries is quite a bit darker sounding. I know mine are wired correct did it twice trying to get more single coil sound by switching the neck to the bridge and so on. After that the neck single and middle position sound great bridge is brittle and thin. I'm switching to Lace chrome domes for more single coil sounds. Not that I don't like the P-rails just not what I need for single coil.
