shred players which pick...

Which pick do you use to play your best shred guitar? How come? Or, which pick does your favorite guitar hero use?

I'm currently using a dunlop .88 nylon which seemed to be a happy medium between single notes and chord work, but I can't help but think that a harder pick would help my accuracy. Years ago I used the dunlop green tortex, and I feel like I had more control back then. I'm thinking of switching back (or maybe to the ultex) because I've had to play more 80's type guitar lately.

I always play with the green tortex. I love 'em. But something most people wouldn't think of, for shredding those rounded bass picks kick ass. I occasionaly use these really small 2mm purple dunlops. They work awesome, you can play really fast without loosing control. You may need to glue your fingers to the pick or something tho.

actually, i just remembered why i stopped using those. they were too small and made my fingers tired. they make bigger ones that are thin in the center and im sure those will work just as good tho.

I just used one of the Dunlop red Jazz III's on the weekend, but I thought it was a little too small for my fingers. I usually stick with Dunlop orange, Dont have one on me but I think its a .68, I find something around a .70mm is versatile enough for chords and singular notes. The black dunlop 1mm picks are my favorite for pure thrash.

Dunlop .88mm Green Tortex. Near-perfect balance of light and heavy, leaning on the heavy side. For accuracy, touch, and power - it's probably the perfect pick.

I play 80's metal as well. :)

I'm using Pickboys lately. The ones with all the little holes in them.

I'm only a shredder in my imagination, tho.

ROCK ON! I didn't know anyone else used the Dunlop Jazz III's!! I love those picks, whether it be for hard leads or heavy chords!

I'd really like to try the new ultex picks though, the description on the site makes them sound so delightful lol. :32:

nice one :)

i've just changed from those over to Jazztone 205's. they feel lighter and softer on your fingers but are still about as stiff which is good (i hate thin picks)

Dunlop tortex 2mm.

Used to play with a 1,5mm, but i'd wear the ****er out in 3 days.

For people that have that problem I think Dunlops ultex is the best pick for them. I've been using the same one for months and its only lost a very little bit of material. Hell you'll lose them before they wear out!

A 2mm tortex lasts me about a month or so. So i pretty much lose it before it wears out. And i'm already accustomed to the thickness.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

dunlop black 1mm.... don't wear to fast on me and i love the little grips so after playing a long gig it is still in my hand unlike the smooth picks

Re: shred players which pick...

Recent convert to Dunlop Ultech 1.17mm ... They don't shred apart as quickly as my previous fave, the Fender Premium Celluoid, but they do get dull after a few hours, and I can feel it slipping off the strings, and my accuracy is affected. They last twice as long as the Fender PC's, tho.

Re: shred players which pick...

.88 green tortex. May move to the 1mm blues tho. Tried Jazz IIIs and are too small for my hands and nylon slips around like crazy. I like Ultex but they dont grip as nice as Tortex

Re: shred players which pick...

Pickboy pos -a grip 1mm [they are the black ones with the holes in the middle of them they help them from jumping out of my hand.
