Shredding your own shred

Hi guys,

My band has recently been recording songs for our demo and I wrote this insane solo for one of our tracks. It was easy to play when I first wrote it and it's easy when I practice it. When I am recording it I keep stuffing up

Any tips on how I can get it up to speed? I have been practicing with a metronome at a slightly slower speed and gradually increasing the speed each time. Will that help?

Practice... there's some misconception among musicians that there is a magic way to get a piece down when there isn't. It's always just going to be about practice and practicing correctly at that.

I wasn't really asking for a "magic way" just any tips on how to play to the best of my ability. We all have crappy days.

Anyway... it starts with a 4 string sweep, then into a scale run, a shred lick and a bend at the highest frets that makes a strange sound effect. That is the first half of the solo which I do fine but I mess up when going into the second half.

Relax when you're recording, easier said than done when you're on the spot. Take a few deep breaths, try to go to your happy place, etc...

Called red light syndrom..hehe. If you can record your own stuff at home then record stuff frequently. I remember when i first started recording my own things i screwed up alooooot. Now i dont mess up too much because im getting used to it.

That's funny.

I record bits and pieces just for a hobby and I find myself screwing up the easiest crap once I hit record. Twang, twang, fret-out, out of tune bend, forget the next note, etc, etc.

Guess i wasn't meant for the big stage.

For me, the biggest thing about recording at home was hearing all the flubs that you don't really catch when you're just playing. And double tracking stuff; maaaaaaaaaan, you get a fast education about how accurate you really are.

Yeah .morely ,you hear how sloppy you play ,and how improtant timing is ,since if you don't perfect on the first track ,your over dub can never feel good anyways!
I have no problems with recording anymore since i do it really often!Do it man ,nothing is more educating than that.And be patient ,but most importent ,honest to yourself ,and try till you bleed ,or bettersaid ,try till you get it perfect.You will grow with it.If you grow with it ,you can play it when you sleep ,when you pop ,when you're even dead and buried.If you feel what you play ,you have it.There is no place for doubt.Play it man.Feel it and Play it!
