SHS Jaguar: Pickups?

I'm at it again with my nutty mods, but here's my latest ideas: SHS Jag!
I currently have Antiquity IIs in Bridge and Neck, and Sentell Cougar HB for Jag in Middle.
Strangely, the Sentell isn't loud enough. Anyway, I'm on to another idea: perhaps worse!

I'm thinking of getting Quarter Pound for Jag for Neck and Bridge. In the middle: JB Jr (bridge)
I've found that just reading the kHz specs doesn't tell the whole picture of volume output.

Central question:
Will a JB Jr be as loud as the Quarter Pound?
Is JB Jr a good match for Quarter Pound?

My Sound
I like CLEAN when I want it. I use lots of dirt pedals for dirt, when I want it.

Also, I like middle-neck quack!
Can I achieve quack with Quarter Pound neck and split-coil middle-position JB Jr?

Instead of JB Jr, should I consider Lil 59, Lil Pearly Gates, Screamin' Demon (I don't do metal)?

[Pictured is HSS: Cougar Humbucker for Jag (in claw); Antiquity II in Middle and Neck.
[I now use the Cougar Humbucker in Middle position for SHS]

Re: SHS Jaguar: Pickups?

qp's dont quack much. the jb jr should keep up volume wise as long as the heights are adjusted properly

Re: SHS Jaguar: Pickups?

Nice concise response.

Which Jag pickups have the best possibility for quack?

I understand they are not much different from strat pickups, and I understand Quarter Pound are closer to P90 style.

Re: SHS Jaguar: Pickups?

what do you not like about the antiquitys II's?

the qp is sorta like a p90 but not really. its big, thick and loud but doesnt sound much like a p90 to me

Re: SHS Jaguar: Pickups?

Actually I like the Antiquity IIs.

Truthfully, I'm building another similar guitar and I wanted to try something else.

The red Jag squeals a bit too much. I can't get sustain in the upper register when I distortion for leads: after 2 second the sound devolves into feedback. I play shows in the real world, and I'm usually closer to my amp than I'd like to be (I play a 60 watt 1x12 at 4 or 5, nothing crazy).

My guitars with humbuckers and strat bridges don't have that problem, but I love the feel of the Jazz/Jag tremolo, so if the bridge is the problem, then I'll have to live it.

I also like the sound of a bridge humbucker, but I like more the sound of a bridge single. Having the humbucker in the middle seems like a good compromise. For all these pickups, I only need a few sounds:

Humbucker lead
Bridge Lead
Bridge + Neck
Neck only
Neck + Middle (quack)

Maybe the Quarter Pound is too hot.

I've read that quack is emphasized when one pickup is louder than the other. I'm hoping that the little coil in the JB Jr will help.

Re: SHS Jaguar: Pickups?

quack is a function of the interaction of two pups so its as much about frequency response as it is output difference. having one pup a little stronger can help but that can be achieved by adjusting pup heights. having one pup that is significantly hotter tends to kill a lot of the quack

Re: SHS Jaguar: Pickups?

I agree the QP isn't really like a P90, but it's not really Stratty either. Cool pickup, though.
