Signature guitars

Yesterday evening i was around and looked for signature guitars. I looked for Fenders, Gibsons, Martins and more.
Guess what i found: Only Eric Clapton has a signature guitar from the each of the Big Three.

Just sayin…

Interesting, Page has Fender and Gibson, but I would also think he would have Martin seeing Stairway to Heaven is one of the most famous songs recorded on a D28.

Eric Clapton just got tweaked versions of existing instruments. Les Paul, EVH, Chet Atkins, the guy from Nirvana, Steve Vai, St. Vincent, and a bunch of other guys all had new guitars made for them.

Also Fender and Gibson make instruments for musicians, wheras Martin tends to design their guitars more for the aforementioned musician's grandparents, so it makes sense Clapton would have one.

thats sorta true. the fender clapton strat was a decent departure from what was available at the time. lace gold pups, tbx tone, mdx (mid boost) circuit, 50s neck carve... its still a strat, but in 1987 it was unique. the martin and gibson models are basically beautiful versions of vintage guitars and come with that pricetag as well.

I liked Martin EC and the Fender EC Strat with their V shaped necks very much. But i never had the chance to play his Sig Gibson ES 335, its only a limited CS model i think.

Exactly the things I hated about his Fender and his Martin. I liked the sound of both though.

The EC Strat is up there as one of my favorite signature guitars.

we had one a the music store i was working at when they came out. fantastic mid 60's 335 copy but with a huge pricetag

V necks are kind of a very acquired taste kinda thing, IMO. I don't get the ergonomy behind it. I don't think I ever will. But each to his own.

In short: Thicker neck for small to medium hands, no shoulders, thump over playing, riffing like Keith and Eric

BTW most of the famed Gibson 1959 Historics have a slightly rounded V neck.

I guess? All the more reason I'd much prefer an R0, LOL.

Isn't the Gibson 50's neck profile based on the 1959 neck profile rather than the 58? I don't think that's V-shaped at all. Mostly C or U, I feel.
