I have a Jackson PC1 which is bolt on with a Mahagony body and Maple Quilt Top, and Maple neck. I currently have a Custom SH-5 or more specifically the TB-5 in it.
It sounds very good and extremely articulate.
I had my freinds Jackson Warrior and played it through my amp. The Warrior is a Neck Through design and has an Ash or Poplar body wood. It also has an old Seymour Duncan Silver Bird pick up which is a double blade pup.
I noticed his guitar has more sustain than mine and also was getting that cool wah wah sound with that pick up. It was a little more harsh sounding and less articulate - I have heard neck throughs are not as warm sounding as bolt on guitars.
I have a Jackson building me a custom guitar with basically the same wood and construction as my PC1 with a few minor changes.
Does anyone know how the Silver Bird compares to a Custom 5 (TB-5). My objective is to get as much sustain as I can. I also like that wah wah sound when bending strings.
I am wondering if it is his pick up or the fact that his guitar is a neck through that is giving him a little more sustain than mine.
I am considering having the Seymour Duncan custom shop build me a replica of the Silver Bird.
