Silvertone wiring help!

I bought this old silvertone a while ago, and I'm trying to get it to work properly. The switches don't really work, the hum is pretty strong, and the tone pot doesn't seem to do much. My plan is to get new parts and rewire everything.



I've drawn the wiring diagram as it is right now, and I don't really understand what's going on. I've compared it to other 2 single coil diagrams, and it looks pretty different to me. All 6 cables coming from the pickups are twisted together, so I'm not 100% sure about which three are from the neck and which from the bridge.



Why is the wiring so different from the one of a standard 2 single coil guitar?
Does anybody understand what the switches are supposed to do?
If all I want is volume, tone, and two on/off switches for the pickups, is there a wiring diagram I can use?

easy to do.. ill draw something up in a few.. 2 switches..for on/off of each pickup,volume and tone.. ?

You sure you drew it exactly like it is.. I can understand the drawing and some makes since and others parts im going "Huh?

in order for that tro work right.. the 1st switch ,middle lug to 2nd switch,left lug is wrong.. In the config, bridge would never be aloud on unless the neck switch is also engaged.. the wire connecting to switch 1 and 2 should be connected to the middle lug of both and there will have to be a wire connecting the middle lug of switch 2 to the left lug of he volume...

like speaking a 2nd langauge.. LOL

Thanks a lot for the diagram!
I'll check again, but I think everything in my drawing is as it is right now. I'm also really confused by it. Who knows, maybe somebody rewired it at some point and made a mess.

Should I wire both the green (it looks almost gray in my drawing) and the black wires from the pickups to the back of the volume potentiometer? I'm guessing that one of the cables is to shield the pickup cover, like when using lipstick tubes or some tele neck pickups, but I'm not sure.

yea.. without looking at the pickups no idea why there is 2 grounds.. just going by the drawing.. had 1 hot.. 2 grounded wire
