Hello, I'm new to this forum and to Duncan pickups. I've got an Ibanez S serie mahogany where I installed a dimebucker. I'm starting to like it although it seems to be a very high sounding pickup. I have another S serie and want to try another pickup. Something close to the dimebucker, maybe a little less high.

Which should i choose? JB, Custom or distortion? From the tone chart, seems to me the eq of the JB is the closest to the dime. I play metal (easy to figure out I guess). To hear excerpts of the album I made with that guitar, but using stock pickups, go to www.tearsforthedeadgods.com Thanks!

Re: Similar to dimebucker: JB, Custom or DD?

I'd go with a Custom or a DD. In such a thin body, I don't think a JB would be all that great.

Re: Similar to dimebucker: JB, Custom or DD?

The Dime doesn't really sound like any of them. I bet you'd be happy with any of them, just bear in mind that the Distortion is gonna be pretty similar output-wise to the Dimebucker.

Re: Similar to dimebucker: JB, Custom or DD?

What would be the main differences in tone between the dime and the other ones?

Re: Similar to dimebucker: JB, Custom or DD?

the Dimebucker is high output, tight and crunchy bass, less middles than the DD, and cuting through highs. with well defined palm mutes
i had a DD in a cedar body, maple neck 27 frets brazilian guitar with jacarandá da bahia fretboard... and it sounded a little harsh, too much Output and lots of Bass, highs and grinding mids. but i can´t precise it´s tone because in the time i had that pickup, i couldn´t be able to Properly EQUALIZE it with my amp.
so, not take my advice on the DD.
and the Jb will not be a good solution, since the Jb has less bass than the CUSTOM and the DD, and ....has a more Overdriven sound, while CUSTOM AND DD HAS A MORE METALIC DISTORTION Kind of tone. i mean, my Analogy between an overdrive and a distortion Pedals.

Hej man, you have an AWESOME BAND
i have to make too corrections on what i said.
1 - get or the Jb or the custom. because of the sound that i heard of your band´s CD on your website.
the JB sound´s like a complement for what i´ve heard there.
or if you want a PAF in steroids, as SD quote from a description of the DC... go with duncan custom.
it(Jb) will give you good lead tones and good rhythm
and the duncan custom will ADD MORE Balls to the JB SOUND.

POWERMETAL!!! You guys are pretty good. Fates warning type sound almost.

Custom or Custom Custom.

Hey, I can't get the mp3s to download. They just open in a new page.

The biggest thing that sets the Dime apart from the rest (to me) is the twanginess. Is your other S series the same wood & construction? If not, the Dime is gonna sound different in it.

Re: Similar to dimebucker: JB, Custom or DD?

My other s serie is almost identical. Only the neck seems to be a little thicker. I might just get another dime if after a few days I still like the sound. Thanks for the tips and good comments about the band! Cheers!

Re: Similar to dimebucker: JB, Custom or DD?

Try a Custom 5. Metal guys always gravitate towards the ones with the mean sounding names, but the C-5 is where the tight percussive lows are at. It's like a Custom with a sweeter tone. Kind of a cross between a 59 and Custom. It's one of the few pickups that sounds brutally heavy with high gain, yet still sounds nice with clean tones. It's my favorite pickup, especially for mahogany body guitars.
