Simple Songs

One of my students is starting to learn basic little songs like Smoke on the Water and a single string version of Iron Man. Are there any other simple songs you guys know?

Thanks, Andrew

Re: Simple Songs

Living After Midnight and Breaking The Law by Judas Priest.

Re: Simple Songs

rock you like a hurricane. I still play the main and verse riffs goofin' around, and it was like the first thing I learned 20 years ago.

fun to play the james bond theme song too.

simple stuff rules - you don't have to warm up or try to re-learn some super hard riff just to play it again.

there's tons of AC/DC stuff that your buddy could probably get into. back in black and highway to hell come to mind.

Re: Simple Songs

dont waste time teaching single note versions of song melodies unless you are using them as ear training where the student has to figure them out and prove that they are 'getting it' when it comes to learning by ear

teach em chords ... open position cowboy chords ... then root on 6th and root on 5th ... make em learn the notes on the neck for those two strings ...

use simple songs to get the ability to change chords on the beat down pat

Re: Simple Songs

Black Sabbath - Iron Man, Paranoid, War Pigs, Hand Of Doom

Judas Priest - Hot Rockin', Grinder, Running Wild, Green Manalishi, Take On The World, United

And it should be noted that the guitar part under the verses for Iron Man is all single-note lines, not chords, so your student's good there.
