Single coil (bridge) for metal AND middle/bridge twang?

This is for my American deluxe strat, alder body and rosewood board, s/s/s config. The stock bridge pickup suffers from the proverbial thinness and I was going to put a Dimarzio fast track 2 in the bridge, as I need to be able to get metal sounds, but also need to get that twang when using middle/bridge pickup together and was afraid I’d lose that sound with the fast track, since it’s actually a humbucker. And I’ve released that I really like this single coil strat sound in a metal sound setting and I’d like to keep it, but just have more bass, some more output and great high gain capability, but still able to provide that middle+bridge twang – and still be noiseless. I’m thinking of the Seymour Duncan Hot Stack for higher output and noiseless design, but do you think it has enough bass? Any other pickups I should consider for this application?

Many thanks in advance!

This may be stupid as I simply dont play metal, but the full size JB is one of the best twang splitting humbs out there and certainly can be used for high gain- Now I have absolutly no idea, repeat, no idea how close the JB jr comes to filling the same role, but it might be worth asking-

Get an EMG Dave Gilmour set. It does exactly what you're describing with NO noise in any position and under any amount of gain.

Boy...you're pretty articulate for an 8 year old!

Anyways, the Duncan Hot Rails or JB JR. are pretty high output pickups.

Not especially twangy in a single coil way but for metal I don't think you'd really want that single coil twang anyway.

If you want a single coil sound, the Quarter-Pounder can supposedly stand up to some humbuckers. And if you get it in the tapped version, you can tap it down to a vintage single coil sound to get the twang in the bridge/middle position.

the quater pounder is f***ing hot! i got one in the neck of my strat!!! more than a single coil and quasi like an humberker (but less!)

Yeah that Gilmore EMG set seems almost perfect for this application – if only I could get something like that in a passive design so I didn’t have to mess with batteries(?). Replacing just the bridge pickup would be fine for now, as I wasn’t planning on a full swap out, but of course after reading about that EMG set now I’ll likely not be able to stop myself from a doing a full upgrade damn it. This guitar-playing racket is too expensive and it never stops. I truly am in Hell. But I’m happy here.

Don't worry about the batteries. I have the DG20 set in my strat. I change my battery every 6 months. Not because I have to, but I don't want it to die during a gig.

if you want a real single coil get a tapped qp flat. when you switch to the #4 position, use the tapped output and youll get a fairly traditional spanky strat tone.

if you want a bucker id go with a hot rails and split it in the #4 position, that way youll get more of the stratty quack and it should cancel hum if set up right
