Single coil pickup with reverse pole piece stagger

I ordered a set of SD custom shop single coil pickups and noticed something strange while installing them. The pole pieces on the middle pickup are reversed from the bridge and neck pickups, almost like it was wound for a left handed guitar. I was wondering if it is safe to just flip the pickup before installing it so all the pole pieces match up?

The middle pickup is reverse wound/reverse pole. It is a calibrated set. Install it the way you got it. It is wound like that so as to cancel out hum in the notch positions.

The pole pieces on my Antiquity Surfer set are staggered the same on all three pickups. On this set it is the middle pickup only, I have never seen this before and it looks like a single coil meant for a lefty strat.

oh ok I get what you are saying now...,... my bad.

Contact custom shop and post their answer here. :)

Yeah, it looks like I will have to contact the Custom Shop to get a replacement pickup. I overlooked the fact that the routing on my strat will not allow the pickup to fit when it is flipped around.

I've had it happen to me with another vendor. Get it swapped out.

Re: Single coil pickup with reverse pole piece stagger

The lefty stagger may well be something that works - I use RH strat pickups on all my strats now, and I'm a lefty - they have never sounded any different to a strat. And I've never heard a wolfetone either - I mean I know what they're supposed to sound like but I've never heard one....maybe it could be the reverse stagger preventing this:33:
