Single coil pup for heavy rock and beyond?

Fulltone

New member
I'm looking for a pup in the bridge that'll do heavy rock and still have a smooth, sweet lead. This'll be going into an SSS setup, already have a classic stack in the middle and neck so I'm looking for something a little hotter in the bridge.

Thanks.

The Quarter Pound imo is one of th best SCs for heavy stuff. It's hot fat, and shoudl stay smooth enough

The Cool Rails bridge is another option. Its hotter than Classic Stacks and is the most single coil sounding of the Rails. It has good low end is and very sweet in the mids and highs. It happens to be my favorite neck single with low and meduim output bridge humbuckers.

I like the QP. The "Hot" is another option that has more mids and less highs. It also will match the other pickups better than a QP. If you going with SC sized humbuckers, the SD and JB would be good. ;)

The SD SSL-4 Quarter Pound will do the big tones for heavy rock you're looking for in a single coil. I have one in my Ibanez RG in the middle position and It really matches well with the humbuckers specially when distorted.

+1 to all above. hot Rails is way heavy, but a little sterile. Cool Rails can get heavy, requires a bit more digging in, but sounds nice still. QP can pull off heavy. The QP in the bridge of my strat sounded a lot like a PRS humbucker metal tone.

I have a JB Jr, which I like a lot, but you may prefer a Cool Rails or something else more moderate.
