single coil question

Hey guys, I need a single coil for the middle position of my EBMM Silhouette(alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard) which loads a set of the DiMarzio Breed. Right now the 2 & 4 position of the pickup switcher sound kinda thin and lack headroom. I am looking for a big, warm, dynamic tone for the 2 & 4 position. Come on guys, need your 2 cents. Thanks!

Best Regards!

Re: single coil question

I'm not familiar with the Breed, is this a HSH configuration? If so, try the Bill Lawrence 280S in the middle. Classic Strat tones, no hum, and they cost only $40 new.

Re: single coil question

The reason you're getting thin tone in the #2 and #4 positions probably has much more to do with mediocre tone of the split humbuckers in that guitar than the middle single coil. I'd go to some stronger humbuckers with better tone when split: 59N and JB. Lew

Re: single coil question

The Breed is pretty strong; should do better than a 59 split, IMO. Maybe not as good as a JB, though. The DiMarzio F1 I use is similar to a Breed, and it splits OK.

Re: single coil question

You could go with the Vintage flat or staggered. (I like flat) I have the Alnico 2 pro for strat. The middle gives a nice strat tone that isn't overly bright. Or if you want try a classic stack.
