Single-coil sized bridge humbucker for modern country/blues/rock/worship

Hi guys,

What single-coil sized humbucker would you recommend for my Epiphone Nighthawk in the bridge position? (It has a slanted bucker in there now, but I'm considering purchasing a bucker-to-slanted single coil converter ring because I want a more traditional strat sound when I split the humbucker). I'm looking for something that will give me a good, warm crunch in humbucker mode, but will still give me some SRV twang in single coil mode, if such a thing exists. Right now I'm leaning towards the STK-S9, but I'm also considering a Dimarzio Area 61 (which is not a double stack humbucker, but is noise canceling) because Lincoln Brewster uses it and he has tone for miles.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

You won't get what you want. There is not a single pickup that will sound like a strat bridge then a reasonable rock-strength humbucker.

And SRV (as your example) almost always was on the neck and neck/mid positions. I can only think of a small portion in the middle of Lenny when he was on the bridge, or the thump of the final low E he used to do. Of all the strat positions to try and copy, I'd say the bridge would be the least useful.

I'd go a lil 59 with a series/parallel switching if you are determined.

That's really good to know. Thanks. Like I said, I'm a bass player by trade. Not a good guitar player at all. Strictly rhythm in church. I couldn't play an SRV song if I wanted to, but I hope to get better. I just love that strat "jangle" though, for lack of a better word. I love his tone, John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa (when he plays a strat), etc. There's something magical about that single-coil spank. But then I'd love to have the ability to switch to a smooth humbucker for some songs. Maybe I'll just switch to a whole different guitar if I want a Les sound (my PRS SE). Thanks for the tip.

Dimarzio Injector or YJM fury ... I think would be the best.

I like Lincoln Brewster's setup ... I'd rock a Injector in the bridge instead of whatever he's rocking in the bridge though.

I Rocked the little 59 in bridge for years in a church band. Fantastic pickup if you want something humbuckery.

Holy melt your face tone, Batman! That injector sounds incredible! The few videos I've seen on youtube have sold me. Dang.

The Hot Stack can get close, but no pickup I've ever heard could 'do it all'. However, this one is pretty close. Another option is have the Custom Shop build a slanted Stag Mag, which would work, too.
