Single Coil Sized HB for a floyd rose guitar Bridge position

Hi every one,

I was planing to use two single coil sized HB at the bridge position with a floyd rose bridge. Would that work fine? The spacing would be ok, or must I use a trembucker always to have good results?

Measured my DiMarzio Chopper. It appears the spacing would be just fine.

Why?

@Varg - I am worried about the string spacing (.42in) of the floyd rose original bridge is compatible with the pole spacing (.41in) of the single coil sized HBs.

Dave Murray and Janick Gers from Iron Maiden both use SD Hotrails in their Floyd Strats. You shouldn't have a problem with the string spacing.

The only thing I would worry about is putting two pickups right next to each other. You might get some weird interference.

No, I mean why are you wanting to single sized humbuckers beside each other? Just curious.

Sure, I am planing to have two single coil sized humbuckers in the same humbucker hole, and use a 4PDT on/on/on switch so I can choose among the left humbucker (HB1), a mixed humbucker (south coil from HB1 and north coil form HB2), and the right humbucker (HB2).

A similar set for the neck position too.

I am considering

Bridge:
HB1 - Hot Rails SHR-1n (neck in the bridge to balance output)
HB2 - Li'l Screamin Demon SLSD-1b

Neck:
HB3 - Cool Rails SCR-1n
HB4 - Little 59 SL59-1n

Do you think it might work? I was also considering using the SJBJ-1b at HB1. But I found a lot of controversial opinions about the SJBJ-1b in this forum.

One thing I am considering is to use BMP, but i am afraid any configuration will be good for playing metal only.

dimarzio used to make a pup that was like that. i think it was basically a fast track 1 and chopper side by side

Re: Single Coil Sized HB for a floyd rose guitar Bridge position

since those were sort of intended for Strats to begin with, I think you're going to be ok on any pole spacing. plus, I have several pickups from before the trembucker option and they work just fine with Floyd-spacing. I think some of the deal with the pole spacing is a matter of physics and some of it is a matter of guitarists with OCD (otherwise known as G.A.S.) - I fall into both of those. lol!

your idea is cool and I'm looking forward to how it works out once you get it running.

you need a motherbucker.

Man, looking through that site, ESP Japan makes all the cool ****! I'm in love with the majority of those artists axes!

Yeah, they also offer those models with deadly prices too! LOL
The unique thing with Japanese musicians is they don't seem to affiliate with a certain pickups brand. You can see some uses Duncans and Dimarzios, or EMGs and Duncans and so on. But the good news is they seem to stick their default preference for their new model with Duncan pickups and tweak it from there.
I wonder if they know things such as magnet swap, pole-pieces swaps and hybrid-ing, though. :scratchch

Re: Single Coil Sized HB for a floyd rose guitar Bridge position

And for the OP, I think it is better to use pickups with different outputs and character to get versatility i.e. you get humbuckers for position nearer to the bridge and true single coils nearer to the neck, or combinations of rails and poles etc. You get the idea. And please report back what is your finding with your experiment, your project is very interesting.
