is there anyway to get single coil sound in the bridge position of a hss guitar
single coils have a certain vibe to them that is diff then humbuckers
or will i have to buy a new guitar with all single coils.

some of my favorite guitar players like eric clapton and joe walsh
are using single coils and i think that's the kind of sound i'm after

In my opinion, you need a guitar with SSS/3 single coils. The Duncan SSL-3 works great in the bridge.

is it a strat? all you need is a new pickguard with an sss setup....:beerchug:

Re: Single Coil Sound

cool! so the bigger pickup holes wont really matter much tonewise i guess

yup, tho all the controls are attached to the pickguard, so youre gonna have to gut it and screw everything on to the new one.

Re: Single Coil Sound

sounds like a really cool mod for my guitar but i'm not 100% sure about S/S/S yet

can i still get the eric clapton & joe walsh vibe with the middle pickup?
maybe the SSL-1 Vintage Staggered will do the trick?

Re: Single Coil Sound

If you can, just do a new pickguard with the pups you want. The best humbucker split I know of is the DD. There are many that split well, and the DD has a super cool Strat/Tele thing going when split.

Re: Single Coil Sound

Use a Phat Cat for the bridge HB slot. It will give warmer tones than a typical skinny Fender single coil. There's a lot of Strat players that never use their bridge single coils, as they're so thin & tinny. A Phat Cat in the bridge would give you a very usable bridge PU.

Re: Single Coil Sound

but it wont sound like a strat. there are lots of great strat single coil pups that work really well in the bridge

But it is a single coil, and will give a nice fat P-90 bridge sound. To me, that seems like a good fit for his Strat.

Re: Single Coil Sound

All the players the OP mentioned use vintage to hot strat pickups in the bridge, not P-90's.

In this case, there would be no reason to go with a PCb.
