Hey guys, I was planning on doing the Jimmy Page mod to my LP. I noticed in the drawing my 59b has to be a 4 conductor... and i have a single one... is it possible to convert? if so how would i go aobut doing that?

Thanks for the time

Cheers,
Jeff

welcome to the forum

no, i'm guessing that converting 1 wire to 4 wire is not something you can do at home ... you'd have to completely disassemble the pickups coils, disassemble the current lead from the coils ... find all 4 ends of the coil wire ... bring them out to contact with the 4 conductors .. then reassemble the pickup ... and that would only work if the pickup was not potted ...

if you are really in love with THAT pickup, i suppose you could call the customshop and see if they'd convert it for you ... but i bet it would cost a bunch more than simply buying a new 4 wire '59

good luck

Re: Single conductor to four conductor?

Hi Jeff; Welcome to the forum. It can be done. I've done it, but as T4D says, its a headache. I've got 35 years in electronics, a several thousand dollar soldering station, I drew diagrams, took notes, snapped pictures . . . and still got it backwards.

You could probably trade with someone on the Trading Post easier. ;)

Thanks guys for the info, looks like i'll be investigating some other way of doing it, probably trying to trade it in at a local shop.

Cheers!

Re: Single conductor to four conductor?

I have done a few of them and it can be a headache at times. When the pickup is opened up, things are very fragile in there and alot can possibly go wrong. I think you can send it back to SD to convert it for a small fee. That may be a good idea also.
