Single conductor with 5-way switch?

I have some single conductor hums and I want to install them on my strat with a 5 way switch. I don't care if positions 2 & 4 work. All I want to do is primarily use positions 1 & 5 and use both pickups together in position 3. I'm guessing I need to solder both braided wires to the volume pot first and then to 1 & 3 lugs on the switch and both of them soldered to lug 2. Is that how to do it?

I must not be understanding what you are asking. The "braided wire" is the ground and is soldered to the back of the vol pot. It doesn't go to the lugs on the switch.

I have a single conductor humbucker sh-1b model 59 can i just jumper the black lead to another post of my 5-way switch to add it with the middle position? my question seems about the same.

Just wire it in the traditional way:

In position #1 you will get bridge (humbucker) pup only,
In position #2 you will get bridge (humbucker) plus middle pups,
In position #3 you will get middle pup only,
In position #4 you will get middle plus neck pup,
In position #5 you will get neck only pup.

If you want to split the humbucker for the #2 position you will need a super strat switch (or a push/pull switch, or a mini toggle switch).
