Hey guys, im looking to replace the single humbucker in my BC Rich Warlock. I play through a 120wtt, 2X12 Crate with a BOSS NS-2 noise supressor. I have two of these single hum guitars so i will be replacing the pups in both. My music style is 80s & 90s Metal : Crue, Metallica, Ratt, Queensryche, OZZY, etc. These are the pups im concidering, DIME, JB, Custom, & DD. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks a bunch. :13:

Re: Single hum 4 Metal ?

To some the JB is THE 80's metal pickup. So A Jb would be a good place to start (for one guitar). But randy Rhodes was a well known user of the DD, So Thats another to try.
I've never tryed the Dime (although I want to), Or the Custom. But have heard good things about both.
But ya also gotta consider what the body and neck wood on the guitar is. What kinda amp ya got (I know ya said crate, but not what model. Tube or Solid state?). What gauge strings ya wanna use.
I mean with out all that info its kinda hard to really make an informed opinion on what would work best for ya.....ed

Re: Single hum 4 Metal ?

I was having the same thoughts(same style too) as you altough I have a 2 humbucker guitar.
I read 100's of reviews, listened to loads of clips and was set to buy a Duncan pup. Now I finally ended up with EMG's but if I had bought a Duncan it would have been the DD which I thought would have suited my style the best...

Re: Single hum 4 Metal ?

Hey Low, both guitars are agathis bodys, rosewood fret board, 24 frets, single hum, strings are GHS Boomers 10-46 & 10-52s, im still playing around to find out what i like better. The amp is a older mod Crate GX120/212 solid state ran into a Crate G412S 4X12 slant cabinet.

Re: Single hum 4 Metal ?

I would recommend a JB or a Duncan Distortion on the higher-output side of things, and a Screamin Demon on the lower-output side. The Demon is my favourite pup to play with a high gain amp.

Me too! :)

It is really hard to go wrong with the Distortion, JB, or Custom. All 3 are kick ass. If you're feeling saucy, check out the Invader. There's tons of cool sounds using the volume knob. Lots of people dislike it, but it's my favorite Duncan, hands down (JB is 2nd).

+1
You could also consider the Bill Lawrence L-500XL pickup that dimebag darrell used before he had a signature Seymour Duncan pup. Very Rockin.
Rock On :smoker:
