Single piece of wood body

I just realized one of my Fender's has a single piece of alder for the body. Is that common? My other guitars are clearly two pieces.

Certain models were advertised as a 1 piece body. It used to be luck-of-the-draw. I think my Strat (1982) is 3 pieces.

My Deluxe Strat has a single piece of swamp ash body.

That's fairly uncommon, I think.

Agreed, fairly uncommon. Are you certain it's actually a single piece? Some guitars can be difficult or nearly impossible to tell if the seaming and grain is just right.

You sparked my curiosity so I just checked my Strat again. Any splicing is most apparent in the end grain. I looked carefully...yep, it's one solid piece of ash.
