Single Pot Value To Match 500K Volume/Tone Setup?

A few years back, I converted my 6-string to a 500K single-volume setup to match my 7-string (both guitars have the same pickups and the 7-string came stock with only a single volume pot). I never used the tone knob on it and felt the extra high end I'd get from pulling the tone knob out of the circuit might actually benefit the 6-string. Recently I've been feeling like my guitars are a bit thin and spiky compared to our other guitarist's guitars that have tone knobs (he uses the same pickups), and was wondering how close I'd get to a 500K volume/tone sound by installing a 250K pot in each guitar? I've heard it's pretty comparable from a few select sources, but wanted to get some additional feedback before taking the plunge.

Should be pretty close... Or you could just put the tone pot back in.

Yes, I do that. I only use a volume without a tone on my guitars except for my jazz guitar. I choose the volume based on what the pickups need to sound good. It's not the exact same thing as a tone pot, capacitance vs resistance, but yes it does work.

I don't even understand why you're bothering with the time to post this thread. By the time it took to get your first answer you could have put your tone pot back in or put a different value vol pot in to see for yourself if you get the results you are after. In the end, no matter how many responses you get and no matter what we tell you, you will have to do that anyway.

Well for one, I don't currently have 250K pots laying around. The pots I currently have in are the MojoTone special push/pulls (which I'd like to get in the 250K version) and there's limited space in the control cavity, so I'd prefer to take it to a tech rather than do it myself. I also posted this while on break from work because I like to get as many informed opinions as I can before doing something gear-related? Really not sure why the thread bothered you or why you had to voice that it bothered you.

The thread didn't bother me. And now with your explanation I can see your point. I got the impression from your first post that you were and had been doing all the work yourself.

And to answer your question...no, a 250k vol pot alone will NOT sound like a 500k vol pot plus a 500k tone pot.
