Single sized humbucker output??

For those who have used single sized humbuckers, how does the output compare to full sized hums?

I run a JB Jr. in the mid position, but I find that all other positions on my axe overpower the mid position. I double checked the wiring, and the pickup itself measures around 15.8K ohms, and is still overpowered by the Full shred neck, whether in series or in parrallel, the DD bridge split, and DD bridge series. The output of the pickup just can't keep up with the full sized hums, even when theyre wired in parrallel or split!

Does this mean I've f*cked somethign up?

maybe???
how close is the jb jr to the strings? the magnet isnt as powerful as on a full size bucker but by adjusting the heights you should be able to get it more balanced

Re: Single sized humbucker output??

Its pretty damned close to the strings; closer than the other pickups anyway. Approximately 3-4mm from the top of the pole piece to the bottom of the string on an open string, and 2mm when fretted on the 24th.

thats pretty close, ive seen closer, but that should be close enough.
i havent tried that combo so im not sure if its typical or not but it might be the way it is. in general i dont think the lil buckers have as thick a sound but i havent ab'd them for output.

on a clean amp, how much different is the volume?

Re: Single sized humbucker output??

Thanks for the help bro.

I'd say that the mid humbucker is only 60% the volume of the bridge humbucker

Re: Single sized humbucker output??

I think that's just the way it is. Full sized humbuckers are generally louder and much bigger sounding than Strat sized minihumbuckers like the JB Jr. The bigger bobbins of full size humbuckers allow for more wire and more turns of wire and more output. Full sized humbuckers also sense a wider area of the string. Lew
