Hi

Does anyone know what the correct height for the pole pieces is? is there a measurement that I can go on?

Thanks

Re: Size Of Pole Pieces

There have been quite a few threads devoted to this.

There isn't really a "correct" height, as such. If the poles are too close they will cause "magnetic weighting" as they pull on the strings at a focused point. This will cause a false overtone and throw the intonation out.

Too far away and you will get a reduced output as the flux density decreases, but you will also get a more diffuse range of harmonics picked up. Close to the strings you will get a tighter band of harmonics collected and a more intense response. Somewhere betwen the two extremes is the optimum. The actual limits will vary from pickup to pickup, depending the type of magnet and its strength.

OctaveDoc - I'm totally with you. I hate the posts where they say "As close/high as possible" The tone from that sucks! Feel free to say "Aceman agrees" also anytime you post on this!

Re: Size Of Pole Pieces

I start at 1/16" from the top of the polepieces to the bottom of the strings when fretting each string at it's highest fret at the bridge. 3/32" at the neck. Tweak as needed.
