SJAG-1 sounds abnormally thin

I just put a Vintage Jaguar in the neck position of my Charvel. It sounds EXTREMELY bright and thin, especially for a neck pickup, and I think something is wrong. The other two pickups (SSL5 and a Dimarzio Tone Zone) sound fine. Is the pickup just like this or did I do something wrong? It almost sounds like an out of phase humbucker would. I assume the yellow wire is hot and the black is ground, and that the pickup should be positioned with the black wire on the bass side of the guitar...is that not right?

Thanks

...can't tell you... I only use Jag pickups in Jags, and haven't ever used an SD jag pickup...

Jag pickups are meant to be used with 1meg pots, but if you did that it would sound even MORE bright and thin... with normal pots they ought to sound almost just like a normal strat pickup.

the 6.5k of the jag pup is about half of the 13k of the ssl5, its going to be a brighter thinner tone with more jangle. how close is it to the strings?

Re: SJAG-1 sounds abnormally thin

I've adjusted the height a lot in both directions and I don't think that's the problem. I've paired low and high output pickups before and this is a MUCH larger difference than I've ever experienced. It really sounds like I put a wire in the wrong place, but besides possibly having the hot and ground switched, which apparently I don't, I can't think of what it might be.

If I was hearing this tone from the bridge I wouldn't be so concerned, but it's really strange to hear it from a neck position pickup. I'll keep trying, but if you guys think of anything else let me know.

Thanks

Edit: If it helps, I have everything wired to one tone and one volume, with individual on/off switches for each pickup...
