Greetings fellow rockers! i have a skid row related query. Does anyone know what pickup (assuming snake sabo) used for the youth gone wild/18 and life recordings to acheived such a think tone? thanks everyone

Re: Skid Row

I read Guitar World magazines years ago when Skid Row first came out, and there was no discussion of what they recorded with, but at the time Snake was using an Ibanez Iceman with an EMG 81, a PRS with HFS pickups, Scotti Hill was using Jacksons with JB's.

Recently there was an article floating around that said both Skid Row and White Lion used the same producer for their first albums, and he had them both use the SAME EMG equipped Steinberger with the volume and tone controls bypassed, with the same settings on the ADA-MP-1 preamp. So the first White Lion and Skid Row albums should sound identical to each other

Re: Skid Row

Cool article. Straight from the horse's mouth. I stand corrected.

Re: Skid Row

I think the confusion might have been that PRIDE wasn't White Lion's first album - it was #2. The first was "Fight to Survive", produced by someone else (though I think they remixed & remastered it w/ Wagener.

Re: Skid Row

OK so now I have to ask is the ADA MP1 worth getting or is it just noisy and processed sounding? I haven't played one since the 90s

Re: Skid Row

hey sorry guys i was in an internetless environment for the weekend. some cal it dads place... i call it hell lol. first off thanks to everyone for your help. second and most shocking... im not sure anyone that heard pride would be comapring it to skid row hahahahahahahahahahahaha. im not denying that they used the same instruments... just that they sound the same. thanks though man. dont let my laughter make you feel like your input isnt appriciated. cause it is. well im pretty sure ill never know unless i run into snake one day. and rock gods willing i will. thanks again guys. later

Re: Skid Row

I always thought that sound (white lion, skid row) was due mostly because of the ada mp1 preamps they used.
That's why i picked one up back in the day. Don't have it anymore but that's no reason to stop playing that kind of music (whoops, ok i admit it, i like playing white lion songs). ;)

Re: Skid Row

Back in the day, EVERYONE used the ADA MP-1, I'm looking to find one. There was one ad that had Kirk Hammett, Vito Bratta, Skid Row, Paul Gilbert, Reb Beach, anyone you can think of- using it, and many of them used the same patches. It wasn't the B.S. endorsee thing back them- they all admitted in interviews to using it.

Re: Skid Row

That MP-1 really nailed the Hot Rodded JCM-800 tone so popular in the 80's. I've seen a few on eBay selling for about $200.00
