Skinner Burst pickups - set number variations?

I am very keen on getting a set of these. I am sure every one of the 800 sets is awesome, but is there any known differences in earlier vs later, ect that would point someone towards looking for a set number in a certain range? Stuff like different wire supplier, magnet vendor, etc that gives one set a slightly different sound to another. I had the great pleasure and honor to have Seymour wind me a set of strat pickups in person at a guitar show where he had a booth back in the day and although I know he isn't winding these, I know anything special edition from his shop is top of the line. Thanks.

I'd like to know more about this set. Some players call it one of the best PAF repro they've found. Yet the neck can be described as airy and chimey by some and dark by others.

I keep hoping for some comments from users that have put it through some paces playing several genres. As in, not all players looking for PAFs are playing grandpa rock. [emoji869][emoji16][emoji869]

for that price, im guessing its mostly blues lawyers buying them

I am not quite sure there is a difference, but someone from HQ would have to stop by and confirm. I am hearing wonderful reviews of these pickups, but I have not tried them myself.

The more relevant question is this......who in the world would have heard every set made, or even enough of them to know if there was any variation during the run of a set of pickups??? Especially given they are machine wound to an exacting spec by a company that is set up to churn out identical pickups. Plus if you are winding a set # as a 1-off run, then you would get all the stock of components made to the set spec in 1 order from the supplier before you even began.

Yep

Closest I've seen is the thread on MLP forum. Even that is just the different customers just chiming in.

This seems logical. But many guitarists are not logical. We all know you can hear things that aren't there. Or, they like to argue about what they hear.

A classic thread title (yes it was real) "any recent years better for pots"

Re: Skinner Burst pickups - set number variations?

So there are any number of guitars, pedals, ect that bear the same name/ model that have changed over time. I would guess when SD decided to do this set his team procured enough materials to make all 800 sets, and probably got as close as can be with consistency of materials.
I was just checking. I am planning on using these, not saving them as a collectors item so a low number is not important to me as long as they sound like they set out to make them sound. Pulling the trigger very soon.

I did hear that Fender Medium picks from 1994 had a special mojo, so I found a place in South America that had a big lot left from that year and bought them. Customs was hell .................NOT!!
:lmao:
