Re: Slash Neck Humbucker
i guess that i assumed "hotter" would mean stronger mids and output. i havent tried a set but im curious so may pick them up down the line. i have an aph1b laying around so might a/b the bridge pups if i do
I'm loving the Slash set I put in my PRS SE Singlecut.
Definitely hotter than the APH-1 set. A little hotter than the standard Pearly Gates in my other SE Singlecut, too. Not quite as hot as the Custom Shop Pearly Gates.
The neck APH-2 (7.92K) is slightly thicker and fuller sounding than the APH-1 neck (7.6K).
Absolutely love that APH-2 neck pickup...but for me, it's the APH-2 bridge pickup (8.53K) that makes for the real difference between the APH-1 and APH-2 Slash sets.
Genuine vintage 50's and 60's Gibsons had the same pickup in the bridge and neck positions so the bridge pickup always sounded weaker the neck.
I always thought the APH-1's sounded great as a "vintage" set but that the bridge pickup (7.85K) needed a little "Oooomph" for more modern playing styles.
That exactly what the APH-2 Slash set accomplishes.
It's one of my favorite pickup sets I've ever used.
I'd put the APH-2 set right between the standard Pearly Gates and Custom Shop Pearly Gates in terms of output or volume.
Right now, those are my three favorite sets of pickups and they compliment each other beautifully.
One guitar with regular Pearly Gates, one guitar with APH-2's and one with Custom Shop Pearly Gates.
