Slave out...different from FX Loop (send)?

Phantasmagoria

watch where you point that sabre
I always thought it was an output after the preamp/before the power stage (like an FX loop) ..so you could plug your preamp into another amp's power section? But there's a definite difference in sound between a recording made from my FX loop (send) & my line/slave out (which sounds like there's power tube drive going on as well...ie. more present/round etc) ...so does that mean it's actually after the power section?

Clean channel (crunch setting) clip:

Volume at >1 ..so not a "toan" demo haha ...just a random sloppy riff for the purpose of comparison)

Straight out - No FX (0:00 Fx Send -> AMT CN-1 Cab sim pedal -> digital handheld recorder) and the Slave Out recording ( 0:53 onwards - same recording setup)

Generally a slave out is tapped off of the speaker out, so yes, after the power amp and output transformer.

That's sort of what I thought from the way it sounded. But is'nt that like plugging your speaker cable straight into a mixer/another amp? I mean would'nt the speaker (amp's) output (in this case 30 watts) going into a line level input (mixer/another head) overload/blow up the mixer's/other amp's input?

Nope the signal is reduced down to a tiny fraction of what it originally was.

If you want to do some recording you can just record that direct into an interface and load up some impulses on the track and get amazing sounds.

Yep, when I said tapped off the speaker outputs, I meant that is where the signal comes from but it goes through a divider circuit to cut it down to line level.

OK.. some sort of bleed off/attenuation? Anyway...it's pretty awesome. I always thought they were the same thing (FX Send/line out). It's not so obviously different with my other amps...in fact I can't really tell any difference at all (...or maybe I just have'nt paid enough attention before :lmao:) Definitely seems like a good thing for recording :bigthumb:

Yeh my Amp has the same thing a post transformer line out which tbh can sound better through decent impulses then miking it up especially since playing loud rattles most of my room (bedroom full of stuff).

I got one light in my ceiling fixture that went out a few years ago, but when I crank the Marshall and thump a palm muted low E, it comes on

I do like watching things bounce on the shelf though
