Slipknot Duncan Humbucker

I am going to be buying a new guitar, possibly tomorrow.
The one I am seriously considering is a Fernandez with 1 humbucker, 1 volume control, and a hardtail bridge. rosewood fretboard, not sure on the body wood.
What I am looking for is a Seymour Duncan Humbucker to play Slipknot with.
I know I want passive, and I preferably want to get something that my guitar shop has in stock.
This is what he has in stock: JB, Distortion, Invader, Full Shred, and some other stuff that I can't remember.
Slipknot is tuned down like mad, All I want to from this guitar is to copy the sound of the guitarists in slipknot.

The Distortion would probably be your best bet. However, no passive pickup is gonna sound exactly like an EMG 81 through a Rivera Knucklehead (or Krank Revolution, Bogner Uberschall, VHT Pitbull or whatever boutique amp they're using at the time).

If you wanna copy their tone, why not just put in an EMG 81?

I just realized I've been de-tuning for way too long, coz drop B doesn't seem like "tuned down like mad" anymore

Ohh, I plan on having the guitar lower that Drop B most of the time, usually B E A D F# B and maybe some Drop A stuff too.
Thanks for your reccomendation on the Distortion Pup. I realize the 81 would be the best for getting the slipknot sound, but I wanna go passive in this guitar, and that means seymour duncan.
Any other reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

the full shred, custom, or dimebucker are the best high output pups for clarity under gain. if its a brighter wood the distortion or jb would work too. the invader isnt the best for detuning

Hmm I think he has a Full Shred, a Dimebucker, and a Custom...
I wish I knew what wood it was, but I havn't found the guitar specs anywhere and never asked the store owner...
So, you're thinkin' the Dimebuck would suit ok... that might be kool.

You shouldn't trust store owners about specs such as the specific wood of a guitar. I had a guy tell me that a Charvel Journeyman's stock pickup was not a JB (it is), but that it was one with "built in distortion."

As far as the Invader not being good for low tunings, basswood + floyd rose + invader = clarity as low as you can go

Thanks for the suggestions on the Distortion.
Since the guitar has only one pick-up and no tone knob, And I will inevitably using clean tones on the guitar at some point... Will the distortion clean up ok for me? I've never owned one.

The Distortion has a usable clean tone. If you want versatility, maybe go with the JB. It's not gonna cop Slipknot 100%, but it's a killer pickup, and is probably the one most guys would call the "desert island" pickup. Give the Custom a try, as well. Both the Custom and JB have great split-tones.

For cleans with a single pickup guitar I'd go with the JB over the Full Shred as I feel the JB has a more open sound than the Full Shred which has an interesting compressed clean tone.

Interesting though, I was playing with dead strings yesterday, and the wound strings sounded extremely flubby on every other pickup, but when switched to the Full Shred suddenly I had that string-to-string definition that I love

ugh... slipknot have such a generic tone. If you want it as muddy as possible why even bother changing the pickup? Just use whatever it comes with and stick it through a metalzone or something.

I have to agree, the 'knots tone is very stale sounding, i dont like there "music" as it is, but i would suggest either a duncan invader/dimebucker or dimarzio x2n or dropsonic if your going to be wanting uber-high output downtuned metal, then again im using a bc rich right now tuned to F# (F#, B, E, A, D, G) you want to talk low! im getting down and funky with bass notes in this tunings my 8 string guitar will tuned like this but with the extra b and e strings!

I play Duality in one of the bands I am in. I was surprised that the PATB1 ( a JB version) of the Parrallel axis pickups sounds the closest with my dual rectifier. I have tried the C5, PATB2, CUSTOM, CUSTOM CUSTOM, PATB3, SH6, JB, GIBSON 498T in this Ibanez 560 tuned to B. I really like it and its clarity distorted and clean are way better than my PATB2 or SH6. The JB, and the C5 would be my next choices for the guitar your describing.

enter cheap plug here...

you should buy my strat which is for sale in the trading post. it's set up for low tunings with thick strings but it has EMGs in it not passive pickups...still a great guitar and i'm sure you can get a slipknot sound out of it. with the EMGs and thick strings it has a very articulate sound...nothing gets muddy or mushy sounding.

Well, thanks for all the input, but I didn't go the the Fernandez I was checkin' out... Got a brand new strat though... :32:

Fender Deluxe Strat HSS - Fender Tex Mex Pick-ups
I might play some slipknot with it, or i'll go back for another slipknot guitar...
