I'm apparently getting a fair amount of internet radio airplay.

The first 4 tunes are cut with the Bogner Metropolis.
The next batch is with the Soldano SLO-100 with All The Kings Men.
The last batch features the SLO-100 crunch mode with a Strat.

peace & great tones!

Re: SLO-100 and Bogner Metropolis MP3's

Glad you like them!

I want to do some more clips. The SLO rig was using 5881 power tubes, with Soldano X12000 speakers. The amp was modded at Soldano to include the Warren Haynes "fat switch," depth mod, KT66HP power tubes, and now Vintage 30's (and I closed the back of the cabinet... it was a Mesa Back with the top half open).

The current tone is fatter and rounder than the original setup. Hope to add some clips if I can make by Aztec to do some recording.

Is that the soldano producing those clean electric sounds on the last batch of tracks?

Re: SLO-100 and Bogner Metropolis MP3's

Yes.

That's the clean channel/crunch "on." I used a Fender Voodoo Strat for those.

Man, that was great. The Soldano clips would convert me for sure if I weren't a christian already.

+1 . Great chops to go along with that great tone.

Re: SLO-100 and Bogner Metropolis MP3's

Thanks, JM!

Yep, that Soldano's got some great tones. There's a "taming the beast" factor involved with the SLO, but its great for what its designed for.

Daaaaayem! I didn't know SLO100's sounded that good with lower gain. I l may have to look into one of these. I've heard these amps are like, stupidly loud. Do you use an attenuator?

I'm figuring that my next amp that i purchase is pretty much gonna be and end-of-the-line boutique thing and I'm looking at SLO100s and Bogner Ecstasy 101B's primarily. I was leaning towards Bogner but wow now I'm thinking again.

Re: SLO-100 and Bogner Metropolis MP3's

No, I don't use an attenuator.

The SLO is pretty loud, but very linear in the response of the volume pots. You can get good tones at low volumes. Actually, the SLO was better at low volumes than the 8440 I used to have.

I have had the SLO since 1991. An SLO sounds like an SLO. Its not a Plexi copy, or anything like that. I have never come across another amp that produces such fat and defined single note leads. The XTC is more versatile with 3 channels, and the various settings. Its awesome in fact. But, it does not trump the SLO in this regard.

If you get an SLO, get one with the Warren Haynes fat switch. That'll make it so you can use lower gain settings on the overdrive channel, and its very warm & woody sounding.... very sweet. The depth mod is cool, but I don't use it as much. KT66HP's are also good... very fat and warm. Clapton used 2 SLO's on stage for a few years. He and Gary Moore were both using the clean/crunch channel.

ALSO, if you are interested in a Soldano, then get the SLO... it is worth the extra coin. The other amps DO NOT use the DeYoung Manufacturing transformers. The Decatone, Lucky 13 and others have the same circuit, but not the same trannys, and there is a difference. AND, SLO's are very sensitive to bias adjustments. The pot is inside the chasis. The amp is so overbuilt that you can set it at any level, and the amp will be okay. But, I found that this particular amp, with the KT66HP's sounded best biased at 32.5ma, which is actually kind of relaxed (ie. not really hot bias setting). Mike & Bill are easy to talk with, by the way. They'll do all kinds of mods if you so desire.

There was a guy in town with one of the Diezel amps. Nice tones, especially on the 2nd and 3rd channels. Different from the SLO, but quite cool...

They are said to be that loud because the SLO has a very dynamic sound. A 50W Soldano seems to be louder than most 100W-or-so Marshalls, simply because of the difference in dynamics.

BTW, the only negative thing I heard about the SLO is that it's noisy compared to other boutique amps. But other than that... I know a tech who was a designer of the Diezel VH4S head. His second favourite lead channel (after the VH4S 4th channel he partly designed) is that of the SLO's.

They don't make a 50W version of the SLO, do they?

I love 'em! Great tone and overall impression! Are you doing the vocals?

Re: SLO-100 and Bogner Metropolis MP3's

No... you really don't want me doing the vocals...

The first 4 are with Martin Anderson, a Nashville song writer and friend of mine. We did "Maybe It Was Memphis" back in 1991, which Pam Tillis took to #1 on the country pop charts for about 10 weeks.

ATKM is with Kevin Ballard singing.
The church music features the choir, along with band director Rick Bennett.

Thanks for the word!

"Table For One" has got a really simple but original feel to it. If we could just get this material in front of someone, we might snag another hit.
